Omega General Help / Need help with my Big End!
« on: 16 August 2006, 00:12:35 »
After meeting up with RMB and LB this evening, Think we all agree on the cause of the knocking on my V6.

It would be the Big Eng bearings. This was my fear.

Now, before we go into the "Just replace the engine" or "break her", I dont want to hear it, as I cant actually do this. See, we were Hit and Run victims, and the car is part of an on-going police investigation. So we are not allowed to sell/scrap her.

Suits me, I like her, just means that I have to keep fixing her.

Now, I now that the shell bearings can be replace with the engine in the car. And it CAN be done with the crank in situ (this is a very big dollop of good news!).

So, I need prices prices prices.....

1x set of new shell bearings
1x set of bearing cap bolts

Now,

Not sure if anyone has done this before, but I think im going to have to. Cant afford to buy another car, and cant afford to frop another engine in, or take her to a garage.

Does anyone know of anything else that I am going to need to do this? Oh, and anyone fancy lending me a hand?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Got my Miror Working
« on: 14 August 2006, 21:11:06 »
Finally got round to looking at the electro-chromatic rear view mirror.

It now dips as it should.

I didn't see that there was two IGN wires for the mirror.

Connected them both up, and it now works as it should.

Sorted!

Still got about 9" of the memory loom on it too, so, maybe if I can get leather (Need the mushroom), then I can get this going too.

Still a list of other things that need to be done first.

Got to change that cambelt as well!

Omega General Help / DIS Pack
« on: 09 August 2006, 23:15:14 »
Some of the older members may remember a thread started by Ronnie in a place where we found our roots, about removing the breather box.

He stated that Vx should of put razor blades and barbed wire around it, for there being a chance of someone actually being able to remove it.

Well, after struggling for about 40 mins today, I managed to get two out of four bolts out (Thanks to LB for the tool loan  [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif])

Had to stop as typical british weather, it started to rain. Figured that installing a DIS pack in the rain wasnt such a hot idea.

Will keep you posted on how I do this in the morning.

But so far, it goes like this:

- Remove the wipers; There are two plastic caps (or there should be) covering the 13mm retaining bolts, pop these off, and then undo the bolts, they shouldn't be very tight. With the bolts out, then push down gently on the hinge in the wiper arm, and then whilst pushing down, lift the wipers from the shaft

- Remove the scuttle; Pull the scuttle rubber trim, then undo the T25 bolt holding the scuttle to the offside wing. Then undo the (I think there are) seven plastic clips under the lower windsheild rubber. These are Torx head, but they have a slot for a flat screwdriver in. Pull the peice covering the pollen filter first, then the main bit.

- Remove the plug leads from the DIS pack, and pull them up out of the way. I placed mine on top of the cam covers. Out of the way.

- Remove the wiring plug for the DIS pack.

- Depending on the year of your car (or engine) the DIS pack will either be mounted horizontally or vertically. Mine is horizontal.

- Undo the two bolts on the left hand side (viewed from front) of the DIS pack. access is tight, I found that I had to push the HBV out of the way slightly.

Thats as far as I got, so will update a bit more when I done tomorrow.

Hopefully, it will be easier to get the new one on.

Omega General Help / Bose Fitment
« on: 13 August 2006, 18:14:03 »
Is it possible to fit the Bose system to a car that doesn't have it fitted?

I know that I need the amp/tray and the wiring loom.

But if so, where does the wiring loom start (I know it ends in the boot), and what is it connected to.

What differs (Speaker wise)? are the door speakers altered?

Just fancy a challenge.

Many thanks.

Omega General Help / Few niggles
« on: 11 August 2006, 13:12:33 »
After sorting the DIS pack, I now have to worry about a few other issues.

- There is a rattle from the exhaust. Present when you rev it or back off the throttle. Sounds like its from the downpipe/cat area.

- There is a loud knocking/heavy tapping noise coming from the engine. Mark, its the same noise that you heard. It just never goes away. If anything its got worse.

Mark....PM Sent regarding another issue.

Omega General Help / DIS Pack
« on: 31 July 2006, 13:33:49 »
Well,

I got my DIS pack.

Just need to fit it now, any ideas what tools i need, as I have a feeling that it going to be held on with the E-Torx bolts that Vx seem to favor.

I understand the practicalities of them for automotive specific torque applications, but they are pain, especially when I dont have any E-Torx sockets!

Omega General Help / Claimte control question
« on: 29 July 2006, 23:04:45 »
The climate in my car works okay (unless you want it to cool as it needs regassing).

You can hear the servo's controling distribution etc...

When I shut the engine down, the fans normally run on for afew seconds.

Previously, the panel has gone blank when it does this, but tonight, it started saying -- on the temp controls.

I know that this normally indicates a fault, but it works normall otherwise.

Anyone got any ideas?

Omega General Help / Front end damage update
« on: 28 July 2006, 23:44:54 »
After removing the front wing, bumper, bumper reinforceing plate, headlamps and flitch ends this evening, I made a worrying discovery.

The other car had hit with more force that I first thought.

The headlamp mounts and the forward wing support have been pushed back./

With the new wing in place, it lines up at the back (on the A pillar, and at the bootom of the A pillar) it lines up underbonnet. But, the forward mounts (under the headlamp) are pushed back about 1 inch. The panel is deformed, nad has been pushed back.

How can I straigten this out? I was able to bring it forward about 1/2", but I cant get it forward anymore (although I had to give due to bad light and the neibors complaining....not that I complain about their son and his stereo!!! until now anyway  Lets hopw they sought planning permission for their pond.....oh I hate people like that).

So, can anyone help?

Fin, do you have nay ideas, you straigtened out an Omega recently with front end damage.....

Please help, I dont want to break her, but need her fixed....cant afford to go through the insurance, cos then she a total loss.....and then I have to pay my excess (£320 - Ouch!  :'()

Omega General Help / HELP!!! Front End Damage
« on: 27 July 2006, 22:05:14 »
HELP!!

In a car park this afternoon, and some dickhead in a Golf decided to go the wrong way round a one way system, drive head into the Omega, then drove off, with my girlfriend attached to his door handle!

I have front end damage; its OSF, OSF Fog is smashed, the bumper, chrome strip, OSF Wing.

here is a picture

You cant really see in the picture but the wing is pushed in slightly and the mangled black thing behind the fog lamp unit looks like a Flitch end

What do you guys reckon?

I am not interested in breakign the car, or selling, just want her fixed.

IF the other guy pays then great, but he drove off, I got his VRM and the police got the CCTV from the car park, but hey.......

By the way, the car a VW Gold Silver VRM RO51 XFE is anyone knows it, please tell me, so I can inform the police.

Omega General Help / Paint
« on: 27 July 2006, 22:54:15 »
I need a front bumper and OSF wing for my Omega, the chances of finding another in the same color (its called Prestige Blue, but judge for yourself http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g38/harmonye/000_0161.jpg) are very slim.

So, do Vx (or any other automotive paint supplier) have this, or can get this color.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Misfire
« on: 22 July 2006, 01:20:36 »
Well,

I thought I had sorted the misfire the other day, but its now back.

Car again, has no power, and needs to be in Sport mode to get anywhere when above 40mph, or a slight incline.

Have just ordered a DIS pack, Well, I say ordered, picked it up from eBay (Thanks Mark) for 99p  ;)

So, will fit this and see how it goes.

Had some of the plugs out today, to check. 4 of them out, two inaccesible. Couldn't get No1 Throttle cable mounting plate and valve in the way (Dont have any E-Torx sockets, so no chance), and No6, as didn't have time to take the wipers off.

So, Plugs looked okay, Not cracked or anything. Thionking of repalcing them anyway, how much for 6 on Trade Club?

Any other thoughts if not cured by this and DIS pack?
