personally, once the head is off, it is worth giving a skim anyway, the head is allready off, and for the little that it costs, its better to have the peace of mind.

There used to be a precision engineering compnay in Derby that would skim a cyliner head for a £25 Backhander.

Unfortunateley, they are no more, as the guy that used to dfo has left the company (Elison Metal Products)

there is not much room on the V6 inside the cylinders for the timing to be out. Two teeth is about the limit before teh pistons invite the valves down to lunch.

It is possible that they could have just clipped the valves, still bent, but only just. I would take the head off, and check.

While your there might as well change the stem seals and re-lap the valves, considering the valves are comig out, then it wouldn't take much longer.

V6man54deg has a great tool for putting the collets back in, gets them every time.

no mate that aint good, in fact it very very bad.

I would check the timing again, and then look at valve damage.

Head off im afraid, unless you now anyone with a bore-scope

if it still running like crap, tehn I could do a compression test.

I once saw a Cav with a snaped belt (16SV Engine, Non interference)

Timed it back up, started it, ran like crap. Compression tested, was down on Cyl 3.

The piston had just clipped an exhaust valve. Bending it slightly, just enough to kill compression in the cylinder, but to look at, it was fine.

sounds like a vacuum leak.

Check all hoses for slipts cracks etc, or that they are all connected.

Omega General Help / Re: Cambelt DVD
« on: 26 September 2006, 20:02:27 »
I ordered my copy a few weeks back.

Haven't done my belt yet, but the DVD is excellent.

Usual level of quality from from Mark and LB.

As for woeking up the nerve to do the belt, Once you have watched the DVD, you will think, oh, so thats whay thwey mean by insert crank lock at 60° BTDC. Hmm, that looks so easy now I seen it done.

Most of the descriptive on the belt change, is complex, but to actually see it done, then it just becomes so logical.

I love the timing of the cams, that was a really big help, as they sounded like a MOO to get right, but they look pretty simple.

Sorry to drag this one back up, but this obviously isn't going away on its own, and I'm not going to do the womanly thing of turnign the radio up to hide the noise.

I want to get this resolved before it gets serious.

Geff, what gauge/connector/fitting would I need, would a local garage have this tool? just thinking maybe I can slip them beer tokens....

If not, then how much you reckon for postage?

If the cam(s) are walking, what is likley to be damaged, and what is simplist (and cheapest) way of fixing this?
Is there a check I can do see if the noise is top or bottom end/ Dont want to spend money sorting the cams if this isnt the problem. Roughly how much am I looking for it if its the bottom end?

Sorry lots of questions, have had no time recently to look at it or even think about it.

Thanks.

Just thinking about it, this knocking sound came on very suddenly.

There was no build up to a knocking noise, its not getting any louder, its has been like this now for about 3 weeks. So, that doesn't sound like bottom-end to me, just this was my fear.

And it has had some good pastings in that time.

yes that was quite worrying, guess that being loose has mullered the bearing?

why is the omega bay designed with a weakness towards work on the passenger side!?

As you may have guessed the camshaft securing clamp was loose on the passenger side, so am guessign that this is the one that is creating the noise.

Okay,

So how would one go about fixing this issue? and what actually is the problem?

Thanks.

Oh, Do I need to replace the rocker gaskets as well?

but still need to sort the crank.

What about the oil pressure issue. I belive it is this as I had a oil pressure light on but no oil warning on the MID a few weeks ago.
