That will now lower the used values so will be looking around for one . Guess the dash has to come out to check/replace the resistor  :-\

Glove box out job, quite easy  :y

That does not surprise me at all, as said above, these pattern heater resistors are bloody dangerous things

Don't mind Zafiras. To be fair they can swallow more gear than even an Omega estate, and in the length of an Astra. Same for the Merivas - there's nothing to make you damp about the trouser, but a car the length of a Corsa that can take a couple of fridges ain't half bad.  :) My auntie has one, and it's just a car. Nothing more, nothing less. But does what it says on the tin faultlessly. Rubbish as a throaty V8 rear-drive autobahn stormer... but then it never promises to be.  :)

The real one uses a soldered copper strip instead of a clamped resistor(?) and brass tracks instead of tin(?)  :-\

I am assuming the clamped item is a thermal fuse.

The genuine has a heat resistant plastic as its base to with a moulded part which is separate, pattern is just a naff plastic used to form the whole base.

I saw one so bad a year ago I refused to fit it !

I was actually thinking about my Zafira this morning and to be honest, its a bloody good car, pretty well built, reliable, economical, pretty comfortable, enough room.
ITs well known I really don't get along with mine, but I would have to agree its a trustworthy old dog, especially as it gets absolutely no love and attention at all. It gets what it needs and sod all else. This year it has had new rear springs (snapped), new shocks (adviso before I got it, and starting to get bouncy at the back), new rear pads (metal on metal), oil and screenwash.

It doesn't particularly shine in any area (as I don't need 7 seats, possibly its best party trick), but I know when I find it again it will start (reluctantly) and get me to my destination.

I have a real problem with comfort in it causing massive swelling and pain for a couple of days if used for any distance, but I do have a couple of unrelated back issues.

Reminds me though, I really should go and look for it and give it a run - I need to pop to Witney today :)

Those fan resistors do get pretty hot, so everything around it needs to be capable of withstanding a lot of heat over very extended periods. Many cheap ones (for any car) can't.

Breakfast TV interviewed one of the owners this morning:

Owner "we took our complaint to Vauxhall after reading about similar cases on the internet but Vauxhall weren't interested and said it was because we had parts fitted that were not made by Vauxhall"
Interviewer "have you had any work done in the dashboard area of your Zafira?"
Owner "er yes"
Interviewer "what was the reason?"
Owner "the heater would only work on speed 4, it's a common problem on Zafiras"
Interviewer "was the work done at a Vauxhall dealers?"
Owner "er no"

I lost interest after that point ::)

I recall one "expert" saying to listen out for whirring/ clicking noises from behind the dash. Good job it,s not an Omega fault as mine does it all the time. :)
