Emission Control Unit Light---hhheeelllppp
« on: 16 April 2009, 17:04:42 »

Hi All

I hope someone can throw some light on this problem?

I have a 2.2 CD 2002 petrol which I love but is driving me nuts!!

I had the exhaust system replaced about 12 months ago, since then the emission control unit has come on.  Following having the diagnostics done which indicated that the first cat was faulty I had that replaced under warranty.

A little while later it came on again but this time the cat was tested and was found to be working well with parameters.

The second lambda sensor has also been replaced and there is no indicated fault with the front one.

Can anyone suggest why the emission light keeps coming on after the codes have been cleared?

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks

Dez B

Hi Dez and welcome to the forum.

I know a few of the people on here with the V6 have a similar problem but it gets better if you use Shell or BP Premium petrol. I think its something to do with where the lambda sensors are located.

Hi Pete

Thanks for the welcome.  The Omega is the best car I've ever owned and love driving it but this problem is really taxing.

I shall try that, thanks.  The car runs perfectly well which makes it even more confusing.

I have heard that perhaps it is the cam position sensor but can't find any justification of this

Hi
I have the same problem on my 2.2 petrol.... driving me nuts  >:(
I have one O2 sensor before the main cat and one O2 sensor after the main cat as recommended but its made no difference on mine ....tried all the " ultimate" fuels but still comes on after resetting the light within a day or two.... i had the emmissions checked and it scrapped through the mot but only just and this cat is only 5-6 months old ....if it fails the mot next month i will be back to Vx who fitted the aftermarket cat the last time  :'(

I have had this happen to mine, the only time it stopped was after changing the cam sensor. Be sure to use a genuine Vx one though.
