New road tax prices
« on: 30 March 2009, 22:25:23 »

I have 2.6 V6 2001 registered15/10/2001 which means I come under the new tax bands  :'(. I am as I am sure you all know I am in the top band, £405 per year, but then I looked at the results from my last MOT and noticed on each test my results are well below what is stated on my logbook. Does this mean I can get an amendment to my emissions on my logbook or am I stuck with paying for the next ministers pornos  :-?

The government backed down on the increase last year mate...you will only have to pay about £210 a year from 03/01 to something like 06/06 when the government made the announcement on the tax changes...they capped the 01-06 tax to band I or something...

Edit: Just looked and its band F £210 and Band G £400 for cards registered on or after March 23rd 2006

2 points to make ..

1. As already said .. VED changes were frozen .. accurate info can be found nere .. :

http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/tax_vehicle_excise_duty.htm

2. VED categories .. the emissions values used are those submitted to the DVLA by the manufacturers under test conditions, and bear no relation to what you actually get, or the MOT values.

The actual values used for your car can be found on the parkers web site

Find your car, then click on "more info"

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/summary.aspx?model=985

So in effect the system is flawed, in that if you have a car well below stated value figures you still pay

So let me get this right..........................

(I have read the bumpf but can be a bit thick sometimes)

If I have a V6 from 2.5 to 3.2 registered before March 2001 the tax will be around £210 for the forseeable future?

If I have a V6 from 2.5 to 3.2 registered between March 2001 and  June 2006 the tax over the next few years will be limited to around £235 - ish ?

It also works the other way ie:- if you have a moderate car in the middle tax band and re chip it or put great big gas guzling carbs on, it would still stay in the tax band as the original manufactures quotations as to the emisions. ;)

All a con. What gets me about road tax is the street I live on has 4 schools a college and goodness knows how many university buildings on it, either way the amount of traffic up and down it in a day is BONKERS to put it politely. But yet there are pot holes that you could lose a house in in some cases, maybe a bit over the top but you get me. And all they have kept on doing is take up a bit more tarmac around it and refill it. What is it with these people. Have lived on this street for over 15 years on and off and it has not been re-surfaced once in that time.  In this time we have seen the A55 on anglesey grow, the M6 toll, e.t.c. Whats wrong with my street, It's only a mile long. Stupid people. too interested in how many houses they can buy or how posh their parents nursing home is. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone tell this subject really winds me up.
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

AHHHH feel better for that Woo Saah.

Is that all the tax you have to pay in the UK?
I'll pay around 800,- euro tax a year >:((appr. 740,- GBP)
Calculated on the weight of the car, petrol or diesel and in what region you live in.
