Title: Home-made tool :)
Post by: Webby the Bear on 02 May 2014, 18:02:03
Alreet fellas,

During a conversation with teacher it became apparent he'd forgotten to teach us brake line flaring...something we shoulda done in level 1  ::) ;D

So we broke out the flare tool, got some brake line and got some connectors.

Flared one end male and the other end female and crushed the middle section so if I'm ever opening up the brake lines I can attach this to stop brake fluid draining out. I'm going to make a load with different sized connectors to cover most eventualities :)

Presumably those are metric, M10 fittings. The male and female ends will cover pretty much any car from the last 30 years, so different sizes are probably a waste of time.

If you expect to work on older British cars then a similar device with imperial fittings might come in handy.

Although I doubt you'll find either device particularly useful

Thanks Nick,

Well, there are a couple of scenarios where I see them being useful. I removed my mate's calipers on his Hyundai, he then went and got them refurbed and I then refitted them. During that time (2 days iirc) I'd got the vice grips with fuel line on crimping off the brake hose as it's all I had. The hoses did look very pinched so in that scenario something to just screw in would have been very handy  :y

Sounds fun. Might cut my toe nails later and just to make it interesting, cut them a tad shorter than normal.

Got loads of these, different sizes - been using them for many years ;)
