Hi All
My omega v6 will not start... new starter motor approx 5 months ago. Running ok after finding my misfire was from rain getting in under bonnet. Patked up outside supermarket. Turned key and nothing only all panel lit up. Not a sound ... no ignition . Any ideas please.

Assuming you're trying to start your car in park or neutral (No taking the p as that was exactly the 'fault' withmy Dad's auto Sedona when it failed to start when my nephew was driving it) .... it could be something to do with the start inhibit on the selector or it could be the starter :-\

Hi yes tried in p and n... if its starter motor that will be the 3rd one as i have had 2 fitted within 18 months.

Two starters in 18 months suggests other problems :-\

Were the two starters new or used?
Whilst the thought is that they rarely give trouble, I have had to replaced the starter on two of mine with the same symptons on both - turn the key, ignition lights on, but then nothing when turned to the crank position. It started as an intermittent fault on both, gradually happening more and more until totally 'dead'.
Was the solenoid on both - water ingress had caused severe corrosion to the internals of the solenoid. A replacement solenoid on both AND importantly sealed with silicone to prevent further water ingress and all been good since.
Not the easiest component to remove / change due to access but quite doable. Due to this I didnt even consider fitting a used one - even if it had appeared to be serviceable. Both mine were overhauled by a long established auto electricians, for not much money.

Thanks for that, it explains a lot. I have replaced several Omega starters with used, only to have them fail again. I got so fed up I bought a new one (£85ish) from Vauxhall, but that came in a box saying reconditioned, but that also failed after a year.
On my Peugeot 504s and 505s starter failures were more common, what failed there was the output bearing, which was sintered bronze and wore oval in 18 months.

Before you condemn the starter motor have you checked the battery voltage?

Wow .not so fast .lol..
You need to start initially confirming that 12v is getting to the starter solenoid small wire .idealy with a test bulb then proceed from there .
Don't let it beat you .

Sounds exactly like the ignition switch on the end of the barrel wearing out to me, lights come on but absolutely nothing happening trying to crank it, I had similar issue with a Calibra some years ago which gave me and a mechanic the run around for a while, £10 replacement part sorted it in the end

The white plastic bit in the end...with terminals on..

by the looks of her other post it looks like shes given up on the car .shame realy if its a good one as theres probably nothing much wrong ? ?
might be a case of garages giving duff information or not wanting to help .

Thank you so much... ordered and waiting for item so hubby can attempt to fit it.
I still got her but came close to saying bye bye... liver her but shes so challenging.
If it wasnt for this forum then I would be stumped...local garages havent great knowledge... but thank goodness you guys do... 🙂cant thank you
