A car can succumb to tin worm but not if you got a few buddies and one of them's prepared to teach you welding! Cheers symes  :y

I plan on keeping the Omega until the petrol barrels runs out!

Obviously I'm fortunate from being able to learn mechanics but I'm going to use those skills and make sure she's around forever.

As for being a classic.... certainly not at the moment. 20 years time then yes I think so.

It's down to the insurer really. If it's a second car and doesn't do a huge mileage then it's worth trying a few companies. Let us know what happens as I tried a few years ago without luck.

Of course it's a classic. Just give it time. The satnav is already.  ;)

Like the al-aggro Vanden Plas and the Austin Ambassador, etc., though, It's one of those things from the 70's/80's that it's nice to see around still... If only to remind you that yes, "styling" really was that bad back then. I bet it's a lot nicer to drive, too, and they were rare, even back then so, if you're going to have an '80's icon, I can't think of a better one, TBH. :y

I'd be tempted by something like this for a classic...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1990-MERCEDES-BENZ-S-CLASS-S420-Business-Edition-4dr-Auto-/261467859837?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3ce0b2eb7d

Think I would have to LPG it though, interior looks like new! How Mercs used to be built as well, should be solid.

Seen a few youTube videos and maintenance looks very straight forward, their brake sensor setup looks way better.

Unlike a modern car, no depreciation if anything, it could gain value.

Lot to be said for a classic  :)

I would go for one of these , always fancied one  :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-C-MERCEDES-500-SEC-2-DOOR-COUPE-5-0-AUTOMATIC-CLASSIC-SPORTS-IN-BLACK-/261486828270?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3ce1d45aee

The old mercs have much more style  :y
At that price, what's stopping you?

Cant get anymore on the drive  :( If i had mr opti's large gravel driveway then sky's the limit  ::)
