Hi ya buds, As mentioned before about the meega not starting and the ignition lite staying on after removing the key, I have now brought a new alternator (gonna fit tomorrow) which was giving a high voltage reading which made the immobiliser throw a wobbler

TheBoy knows all about these things, all I can add is that my Cheapo Tech2 doesn't even communicate with the immobiliser... it's a bit of hit-and-miss with these devices.

Right, so that is the immobiliser telling the engine ecu not to start.

Is the transponder chip still in the key?

Have you another key? If so, does that work?

Your symptoms are showing that the immobiliser isn't able to read a valid transponder chip.

So, either:

  • No transponder in key, or transponder is faulty.
  • The pickup coil isn't working, or wiring problem.
  • The transponder isn't programmed in immobiliser.
  • Wiring problem with immobiliser.
  • Faulty in immobiliser or engine ECU.
I would say, assuming nothing changed since it was working, attempt to get transponder reprogrammed to immobiliser.

But to answer your original question, its unlikely a cheapo tech2 lead would help.

Yes, a real Tech2 required to do that...  ...car a carpass (will have your immobiliser PIN on it)

The carpass prices varies from dealer to dealer, so shop around.

Try local independent garages, see if they are able to program the transponders.

AFAIK, I am the only member here with a proper Tech2 device.
