Weekend meet in York - Preliminary planning
« on: 28 July 2008, 19:31:47 »

Right, as you all know, I have been thinking about a big meet in York for a while...

I've spoken to a few members on here, and they like the idea of a weekend meet, which would also be suitable for the whole family too.

I have found a few places that 'should' be suitable for this meet (don’t know about cost / availability yet). The idea been that we hire the entire site to make it a private event, or at least a section

This would allow the following to happen:

  • General Meet up
  • BBQ's + Beer!
  • Repairing / Servicing the Migs (I’ve got a generator which I can bring + lots of tools etc)
  • Trading spare parts
  • Meeting new members
  • Not worry about disturbing other people (noise wise mainly)
  • Visit to good old York! lmao!
  • Retail park down the road

Now for this to happen, and be successful, I need to know how many cars would be attending an event like this. And when the event should take place.

I plan on getting hold of BIG tents and gazebos, where cars can be driven inside / undercover which should handy when fixing them.

I could do with giving the car a service, changing the rocker gaskets and sticking a new cam belt kit on it.

So... What do you lot think of the meet idea? When do you think this meet should take place? And how many people am I expecting to see?

Lets make this a big one!  :D :y

Cheers for the pm Ian. I'd be up for attending but organizing a big meet is competing with the Lakes & Newent meets which are already established. We have to bear in mind time off work & expense after 2 big meets have already taken place etc. On the plus side however such a meet may attract members in the Lincs/Yorks/Lancs/N.E areas who might enjoy an autumn meet, maybe Sept/Oct, so not too hot or cold to cater for all. Might rain a little but gazebos can cover work areas, BBQ's etc. Also might interest those who would've attended Lakes/Newent but had to take families on hols elsewhere hence could attend a later meet.
    Comments/ideas please? :)

Yes thats my biggest worry, its got to be either before the newent meet, or after the newent meet... The downside is the longer we leave it, the colder it gets! Now this doesn't bother me, however if its a familiy event its better if its still warm.

I'm sure T.B would agree that if you set a few pikey wagons on fire it would keep the chill at bay ::) ;)
