General Car Chat / Bump .... !@?&
« on: 20 February 2020, 17:14:49 »
Why is it when people drive into the back of you, they always seem to have a reason why it's your fault? Last night a girl ran into the back of the ML in stop, start rush hour traffic & apparently it was my because I didn't set off when most of the other traffic started to move ??? .... reason being was that the car in front of me stalled so didn't move!  ::)

£1100 ..... though I knew the body shop I took it to wasn't the cheapest, but the chrome bit is over £400 on its own.

General Discussion Area / Alarm speaker
« on: 05 January 2020, 15:45:11 »

The alarm on my caravan  ::) should beep once or twice when arming or dis-arming. Trouble is, at the moment, though the siren will blast out if the alarm is triggered, the speaker that should beep is only very very faint. I've opened up the alarm & think I've identified the little speaker itself as fubar'd .... if I put 9 volts across it (easier to use a 9 volt battery than bring a car battery into the house  ;)) I get a similar clicking sound as I do when arming or dis-arming.

Anyone any suggestions as to where I might get hold of a similar speaker to this?
TIA

I found this which looks like it might be OK

General Discussion Area / How much?
« on: 24 December 2019, 12:05:57 »
SWMBO usually gets a turkey crown from the supermarket/Costco but this year decided she wanted a fresh turkey and she was going to buy it from a proper local independent butcher. It was duly ordered the other week and she went to collect it yesterday. In hindsight she should have probably asked how much it would be as she ordered it  but she didn't ..

... £68!!!!  :o :o :o :o

It'd better be bl**dy nice!

General Car Chat / Fingers crossed I've not broke it
« on: 26 November 2019, 09:57:54 »
.... SWMBOs car is due a service, I'm too bone idle to crawl under it so I A framed'd it to Citroen which is about 6 miles awayand due to traffic barely got to 30mph the whole journey.

When I got there I realised I'd left it in Reverse & not neutral (it's a slush box auto)  :o :-[ :-[ :-[ I drove it around their car park OK

General Car Chat / sat-nav vs dash cam conflict
« on: 21 October 2019, 20:26:36 »
I have a Smart Fortwo with a factory sat-nav like this and swapped mydash cam over from my dead Smart to my 'new' one.
I hard wired the dash cam with a hard wire kit directly to the SAM (fancy fuse box/ECU/relay) in the passenger foot well which apparently is where the GPS antennae for the sat-nav is.

The result is ..... the sat-nav now can't see the satellites.   ??? ??? ???

Help.  :-\

Is moving the 12 volt/5 volt transformer? as far from the foot well as it will go (bearing in mind a Smart isn't very big) or can I use a capacitor somewhere like we had to do years ago to stop wipers & alternators etc whining & clicking over the radio?
