I think you just need to learn to read...
I think you're right MM, as you're not making any sense to me. I've even scribbed it on a sheet of paper, using your figures, and still can't work out why it immediate becomes 20 times more dangerous.
its not 20 times its approx 3 times more dangerous per hour than a train and still a lot safer per hour than a car.  I do believe this is what I said ::)

here's some practice reading

"spending 4 hours on a plane is 3 times more dangerous than 4 hours in a train (but both a lot safer than in a car)"

I don't know how I can explain it any better than i did

Yes but in 4 hours on a train you will have got to the midlands, on a plane I will be Moscow.....

If I get a train to Moscow (several days?) I suspect I am exposed to more risk?

Spudulike is one of the politer things I call Bryanair...

Only flown through Stansted once... can't say that it made a lasting impression :-\

Always worked well for me, cheap and if you play by their rules effective. I think it all depends where you going, a short hop in Europe I don't need anything onboard.
I will never fly with them. Ever. This is partly down to the way they operate and partly down to the way they are(n't) regulated. Equally I don't intend to fly with Norwegian until their fleet is on the UK registry.

I guess they will be ok for a few years until the fleet starts to age?

General Car Chat / Re: Auto question
« on: 20 February 2017, 11:05:15 »
My daughter claims that both her autos, Forester and Ranger crewcab truck, if on a steep slope, in gear with engine running, for example at traffic lights on a hill, do not roll either forward (or back), and require no brake or accelerator to hold them. Now either modern auto boxes have a sensor to lock the torque converter, or there is something wrong with both my Omegas. I suspect she is wrong, and has got used to holding them on the brakes, but please confirm.  :o

Depends on the slope, my 3 either creep forward, hold nicely or gently move backwards. There are 2 sets of lights near me where all is balanced and it will hold itself, although I normally put the hand brake on anyway.

.....
The load cover fits fine but I seem to be missing some pieces from the runners :-\
....

The two end pieces that you are missing also hold the load cover in a 'compressed' state for easy removal. As said, you normally slide the load cover rearward until it clicks in to the missing parts. Little red tabs pop out and lock the runner rollers all together for easy removal. You then pull rearward and tilt the front of the missing part up to remove. The load cover then comes out with all of the rollers held tight in the missing parts:y

I'd never worked that out, my life will be so much easier now!  :-[

You can get proper artex remover and it looks very safe and easy to use

http://www.ecosolutions.co.uk/homestrip-xtex/

Unfortunately for anyone in building trade or ship building they were all told asbestos was totally safe so no one gave a crap, I've heard stories of snow ball fights with lagging and one guy eating it to prove it's safe! Sadly many more people are yet to die from it and nothing can be done about it.

Snow ball fights was exactly what my Grandad reported from the dockyard - he was fine, some of his friends were not. Very different material to what's in Artex though.

Iam moving to a 1980 built house and i had the survey report back today. It stated that the house may have asbestos in the artexed ceilings etc. Is they anyway i can find out before i start pulling ceilings down.
I have had a look on google but it only states to pay a company to come in and test it.

Artex of that period will have a small amount of asbestos in it, but so will any other house of the same period.

Look at the textured coatings section here:

It's probably flexi itself blowing, have it cut out and a replacement flexi welded in.

Be around £15 for the flexi itself, do you know anyone who can weld?

Do not be tempted to replace the cat, genuine ones far better.   :y

UPDATE:  My dad went to the place who installed his Stainless system, and they have said they can Cut the offending flexible bit and put a new flexi on or replace with a short straight stainless solid section.  The recommendation from the exhaust people was to put a straight section in.  Apparently, their reasoning was that flexi bit only really beneficial with Front Wheel Drive cars (so I assume it moves more ????)  Given Omega is the more superior Rear Wheel Drive ;D then I guess a straight section would be OK.  Also, any issues in future they can sort as they guarantee the whole system anyhow  :y  and he gets to keep is original CAT  :y

Win win, I think  :-\

It's there on the 4 pot only and is needed to allow for movement with that engine - just stick with a new flexi, they last 10 years so will see the car out  :y

So generally speaking Tony won't be getting an invite to the next OOF meet then?  :D

About face.. I've gone from no feedback to cabin sensor (where that then) and duct sensors.. :D
So I might find something to clean the dust off.

Steve

If you have diagnostic available plug in and you can view all the temps in realtime and see if anything is amiss  :y

no tax on their fuel either not even VAT - even trains pay tax on fuel >:(

CO2 dumped at altitude has about double the global warming impact of CO2 at ground level I believe. >:( >:(
Stop reading the Daily Mail... you'll give yourself an ulcer. Commercial fuel is cheap because it's bought in vast quantities, duty remains the same. It is then written of as a legitimate expense. Which is nice 8)

that's just the usual dangleberries ;D.. type "tax on airline fuel" into google ;).

or http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/commentanalysis/ethicaleconomics/taxhavensinthesky.aspx :

"If global aviation emissions were a country, it would be ranked 7th in the list of global carbon emitters, between the UK and Japan. Yet aviation is the only means of transportation that doesn’t pay a penny of tax on the fuel it burns. This is an unfair advantage that airlines have over trains, coaches and cars, making it the fastest growing form of transport while also being the most carbon intensive. "

It's a good job that article looks at the whole picture carefully and fairly  :-X

Coming home from Bangkok on Tuesday I had a window seat on the second leg from Dubai, and flying across Germany where the skies were busy, I noticed that all of the other planes were belching out trails of dirty black smoke.  :o

So a couple of questions for the aviationists here.

A) Are there any sort of emissions standards/regulations for aeroplanes?

B) Why do these emissions look like a trail of fluffy white cloud at ground level, yet at 40,000 ft it's a trail of dirty exhaust smoke?

 :-\

TIA!  :y

Absolutely, very tough ones - look at a 737 from a few years ago against a current model and look at all the changes. Winglets to save fuel, much larger vey high bypass turbofans etc

118
Thanks for the replies Big Ron - I think i'm getting the picture. There is no feedback on the facelift.

In 'Auto' the cc will operate to a certain profile based on sun, ext temp and drivers requirements with no heed to what is actually being experienced by the occupants.
If that don't suit, such as when the occupants regularly change from skinny young neice on her way to ballet to the complete Harpenden front five of twenty years ago, switch to manual control.

At least when I'm trying to fix the cold air passenger side issue I wont be looking for themistor bulbs or such like to clean :y

Steve

There is a cabin temperature sensor also.

As I can't seem to log into Trade Club anymore, could someone tell me the TC price for the drivers side coil pack 9118114, as I need to replace the one I've borrowed off the project car.  ::)

You have to ask a dealer now, no prices on the TC site anyway.

Not on this deal, TV only  :y

Cheers - can Inkeep my Virgin broadband? Or does it require a phone line?

Far as I'm aware this is a TV only discount, it does not mean that you need BB or phoneline.

Do you still want a code?

Cheers  :y

Thanks - I've not had Sky since the days when the TV box had to plug into a PSTN phone line. Yes code would be great seems good for 18 months  :y

Being a new customer you would get new Sky Q box  :y

I'll pm you a code tomorrow  :y

To Zirk, yes old boxes don't need phone lines anymore.

Thank you  :y
