i think there is but cannot remeber the number think it was a upgrade unit, but there are kits that you can get that will work with some units e.g controls on sterring collem, they have them in halfords think one was £5, my mate has a DVD unit in his and can use the sterring buttons ( radio- cd ) and remot for the dvd ( play movie) but halford will tell you what ones will work. :y

None of the OEM radios that will fit the Omega are MP3 compatable, but there are indeed plenty of aftermarket ones out there, but expect to pay a little more than £5 for the leads to connect to the steering controls though !!

I have some shown on my website if you want to take a look, and if you need any other help - just ask

£4.99 is only the interface patch lead, it does not include the extra £30+ needed for the vehicle specific interface to actually use the lead !!

not what they said you just plug it into the origanal plug and then the head unit no other wire's need'd, and that was the radio fitter. :y

Ordinary ISO conversion lead alone from them is £14.99, but will not connect with steering controls as per your original comments.

Fascia adaptor - ISO conversion lead or steering interface + steering interface patch lead - aerial convertor are some of the usual things needed

and you reckon Halfords can supply the kit for £4.99 ?

Sorry, but thats utter rubbish !!

Yeah and he does not have a clue!

The radio will turn on and work, but you WILL loose steering wheel controls & the MID displayer.

Adapters for each are around £50.

Dave do you have any adaptors with which mids work.
I do have the one with steering wheel controls, but the display turns off (middle line) when the stereo is turned on.
I saw the adaptors with which displays work, but not for migs

What stereo are you running? Does it support Display Output capability? Which steering control interface are you using?

Stereo is Sony 7 series, can't remember the exact model think it was 730.
Not sure about display output capability.
Steering wheel controls are Autoleads PC99-X06 I believe

Not one I have. There used to be an interface for the Sony from Connects2 many moons ago, not something we kept in stock due to the near three figure price it commanded. Have a look at their website maybe, to see if still available.

I`m sure someone will be along here with one that they have ripped out in due course

But Dave please one more info if you know.
With this steering wheel controls are retained?
And what kind of info is written on the screens (RDS song number or even mp3 tags etc)?

right lets get it straight, the lead only works the radio not mid display can use the controls in steering wheel or stick, works on meany radios even dvd players, that is it. why would you wont it to work the mid display, new radios have more info on them that the display. all other functions eg miles-fuel still work on stick control.

Not for a fiver, I think your Halfords contact is mistaken or misinformed....

Reason for keeping MID display is it better position - Omega stereo mounted too low to use integral display.

Display info varies with radio (possibly adapter as well).  I would expect RDS info, and at least CD/Track. If the combination supports it, possibly MP3 tags

how can that be as they are on the shelf in plain sight with the price, new dab radios do not work with the display, and dab takes over next year,

There is No problem running the displays with DAB, but you have to buy the correct interface for it - your £4.99 leads aint gonna do it.

As far as DAB goes, it has certainly been rumoured to be taking over from FM in 2011, however, industry bods that I know are not so sure, as a new format of DAB+ or DAB2 is currently on the horizon, and guess what, its also rumoured not to be backwards compatable with current DAB. The general public and industry people all seem to be taking a hesitant step backwards from DAB at the moment, and as far as a retail point of view, at the moment we cant even give the In-Car stuff away - no one appears to want to invest at the moment.

I think there are some "Industry Insiders" here on the OOf forum, and it would be interesting to hear from any of them about any latest developments, as it would be nice to put a few rumours to bed.

Rustym95 - Rather than us all arguing over this, I would be very interested to know what lead you think is available for this price, and what you have seen on the shelves. I have no doubt that you have seen something for £4.99, but feel you are very mistaken to what it may actually do - it certainly will not do what you appear to think it will. Next time you are in Halfords, take a note of the part number and price and lets see exactly what you are referring to.

If the industry insiders are being guided by J D Power then it is no wonder they aren't fitting DAB in new cars http://nick.piggott.name/blog/2008/05/18/why-in-car-dab-isnt-yet-here/.

When DAB was launched it was pushing the limits of processing power. There is enough information available to the manufacturers now to build integrated DAB systems that could run DAB2/DAB+ with provision for software updates if necessary.

While J D Power are asking European car buyers if they want (North American) satellite radio there doesn't seem to much chance of any sensible decisions being made though :(
