Disconnect the bonnet switch first, then try. If fault persists i have heard that the Power sounders play up on the Facelifts. It may require stripping, cleaning and the battery replacing.

Hello sounds like the bonnet switch as Dazzler suggests  :y Is it doing it when the sun gets on the car mine only did it when the car got hot sat in the sun  :-? if thats the case it more than likely is the bonnet switch. Lift up the bonnet locate the switch on the 98 2.5s there is a braket on the power steering resivoir this holds the switch not sure if its the same on yours . Either try adjusting the braket or as I did and others have pack the contact point of the switch out on the underside of the bonnet and see if that cures the problem it did mine  :y

You need to remove the scuttle panel and it's then on the driver's side on a bracket on the back of the suspension turret.

It does sound exactly like the symptoms I had. The batteries inside the unit had leaked and damaged the circuit board.
