Title: GM Black Sealant 90485251
Post by: polilara on 25 January 2024, 15:12:56
Starting to assemble cam covers for V6 soon, found my old Black Sealant 9048525. There is still enough for at least one cover but it is 10 years I last time used it. It is still liquid, so perhaps usable?? Is there any "Best Before" time after first time opened?

GM dealer told that new number for that product is 1679592380, any experience of that, price is 54 euro (80ml) here in Finland.

Is there any as good products to be used there e.g. Loctite e.g. 5922 or 5926?

Much is mentioned of the GM black sealant but according to those who worked at Ellesmere Port assembling the V6's, Loctite 5910 was used.

Mercedes have readily available and regularly updated tables for all their sealants, lubricants and fluids along with factory approved alternatives including product names and producer details globally.

Presumably GM has similar...

When silicone sealant (which I think this is) goes off then either it will have set hard or more likely (and less noticeable) it will have lost its ability to set.  So squeeze out a bit leave it a few hours open to air and moisture and see if it has set.

Thanks for all comments, bought today Locktite 5910 (reasonable price here) as mentioned here and in the older therad.
