Would like to say: "Well begun is half done". I watched all the videos etc. beforehand...

Crank pulley seem removed by taking the big bolt away - not a problem? Left "idler" is propably a tensioner - any rules how to adjust the tension or are there clear marks?
with the flywheel locking tool in,the crank pulley bolt comes out ok(it's very tight ) new bolt required (which is in the gates kit)
yes the left idler is the tensioner  :)  spring loaded/self adjusting  ,holds back with hex key to get the belt on
the original design of tensioner was spring loaded too with a pin to pull ,but that was revised to be bolted in place and wound back with hex key .

the belt is pretty tight to get on even with the tensioner slackened ,but DIY doable ,just take your time ,
DON'T load up the cam phaser sprockets to get the belt to fit ,keep them locked
timing marks are a guide but don't line up perfectly
Gates kit contains instructions ,idler with new bolt ,tensioner with new bolt, belt , crankshaft bolt

it's worth re-packing (with grease) the aux belt tensioner pulley as you would on an omega  :y

Yes, the marks really were not lined up perfectly, job jobbed finally, all ok, (started to think this project a year ago). Thanks a lot for your help.

My old topic where both DG and dave the builder informed where to find this slot for locking crank (between Dec. 14-16 2021). Dave even enclosed the picture but this is picture disappeared from the topic.

I cannot find the slot in the bloc. I was lookin for it around oil filter area and around lower engine mount area but cannot find it. Do I have to go under the car or can I see from above. What is the direction to put the locking tool in? Is it the direction from the water pump end to clutch end or from front to back. Strange to be that blind. Could you help, should start the job on Friday and be ready on Saturday (same week).

Thanks for quick reply!

Old topic but never had time to start the job. Next Friday I am going to do it. Gates kit did not have tightening schedule for crank bolt or idler and tensioner. Could anyone help?

Your picture is perfectly clear :y

The difference between them being the slot for the parking brake lever is below the hub... The left one in the picture is actually the right hand one and vice versa so 24436738 is the left hand one and it would therefore be reasonable to assume (without looking because I CBA) that 24436739 is the right hand one... ;)

Yes, they are upside down but left one in picture is for the left side of the car I guess...
You are correct, I hadn't initially realised that the face shown is the diff side not the wheel side ;)

Yes, picture is from "wrong side" just wanted to show the label without removing it.

What part number was the unbranded one supposed to match? 24436738 to fit an Omega B?

Or was it sold as fitting an Omega A, Senator B, Vectra A & Calibra?

Yes, I bought that to my Omega B. I could put them one upon another and take the new pic. I think they are similar (L&R).

Succeeded to find original GM 24436739 from Germany and for the other side unbranded one from Finnish supplier. Both are that style where pin is put from front.

Is it so that new back plates are not available anymore. I remember that I read somewhere that "new production plates" could be found. If hub is away and you can open the four bolts I would install new plate...

222
Sure, succeeded to download it, thanks a lot!

223
Finally found it, too. Page 135 in Finnish manual. Difficult manual to find anything, another guide needed for that.

224
Where, I did not find that in the manual...
