Removing a slam panel
« on: 19 August 2015, 13:22:36 »

Hi All,

I'm trying to remove the slam panel from my GLS to replace the damaged one on my CDX but have no idea where to start! I've changed other panels before but not one of these.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You will need a spot weld drill, and then drill out all the spot welds, after having removed, rads, fans, headlights, airbox, bagpipes etc.
Mr Harris-k-telleporter has done one, he be along shortly and explain in a longer format. :)

You need to completely strip the front end first...

In this order...

Aircon degass
Battery
Headlights
Washer bottle
Bumper
Crash bar with brackets
Wings
Wheel arch liners
Radiator cover panel
Air intake system from duct through to throttle body. Throttle body can remain on the engine.
Main fan
Radiator
Gearbox oil cooler, if fitted and auto
Condenser
Front fans
Front loom assembly. Tuck back by battery tray.
Bonnet release cable
Slam panel data plates. Keep safe as need to be swapped onto other panel.

Now you can start drilling...

From memory...

Upper outer corner join to inner wing... 5 spot welds

Lower edge of headlight apperature... 12-15 spot welds

Head light apperature to outer chassis rail, triangular filler panel... 7 spot welds

Radiator vertical panel to inner chassis rail... 6 spot welds

Lift panel out.

Repeat on other car

Refit new panel and plug weld all the holes

Seam sealer on headlight apperature underside, inner chassis raill and top outer corners (top and bottom)

Paint, if required.

Reassemble in reverse order.
