Mrs C's Meriva in for sludgy breathers a month ago.

Cleaned breathers and sent her home - "come back in a month madam". :P

Been back in this week and they have.....cleaned out the breathers and swapped the oil for fully synthetic.....on the advice of Vx Tech Support. :-/

Who bets I can have it back within another month? ;D

Well it's another free oil change and it still runs......for now  :-X

General Discussion Area / Cheapo HIDS
« on: 12 January 2008, 22:56:04 »
For those of us without HIDS I've always recommended Osram SilverStars - £10 a pair.  They give 50% more light and work really well.

Until this week, when one blew. :(

So I've just ordered their big shiney new version the Nightbreaker - offering 90% more light and 10% whiter for £16.50 inc P&P

I'll take some pics and let you know if they're any good.

And yes........they are legal across europe  :y

General Discussion Area / Vauxhall trying to fob ME off
« on: 02 January 2008, 23:09:16 »
As you may recall my wife's Meriva is sick.

It was booked in for Monday 7th but I took it up last Saturday and asked them to look at it asap - cos she want's to drive my car!

Anyhoo, I get home tonight and it's on my drive. Wow  :)

Great I thought, no bus for me tomorrow.   :)

She says they have cleaned it all out and want to look at it again in a month cos they say Vx wont authorise the repair (HG)

So I took off the filler cap - covered in mayo - but it had been wiped clean. Checked breather - sides covered in mayo - but looked like they'd shook it clean. Mayo all over the inside of the top of the engine. And they hadn't changed the oil or topped up the water that was below the min level. So, no the idiots have done 'dangle berries' all to fix it. :o

The Service Manager will get short shrift tomorrow and I'll be asking if they belong to a trade association - which of course I already have the address of. :P and it'll be back in on Monday.

It may only be a Meriva but they've awoken the beast - I HATE being fobbed off!!!!!!!! >:( and I hate my wife driving my car even more  :'(

General Discussion Area / Inpromptu OOF Meet at Talkin Tarn
« on: 30 December 2007, 17:14:16 »
I went for a walk to a local beauty spot today and parked next to a star silver MV6.

Of course I OOF'ed him with one of Mike's flyers and was ready to set off when the owner came back. :o

Imagine my surprise when he asked me if I had any trouble with my CD player as one side of his output was broken ...... er no, came my reply, but try the website in the flyer and they'll be able to help. :)

He explained he already had, but had never been able to post since joining - so I took his name and said I'd see what I could do.

But then I kind of forgot - I thing it's Phil Thompson - who is a member here with 0 posts, so I've emailed him.

Does that qualify as an OOF meet - no pics I'm afraid  :D

So, if anyone has any advice please reply here in case he drops in - it's the Multi CD jobby in a 51 reg MV6 and one side if the output is dead  :y

General Discussion Area / Tale of Woe
« on: 24 December 2007, 16:44:59 »
Forget the Tale of Two Cities and all that cobblers, here's an on going saga that is The Tale of my Wife's Meriva.

I last posted on this topic in late October - breathers were cleaned again, new hose fitted, new steering bits and new radiator after they broke the mounts...... :(

Well I had a look today and this is what I saw......

Throttle body :(

Inside of disconnected breather hose :(

Filler cap :(

Dipstick - sludge evident on the end  :(

Rocker cover gasket replaced 25 October to fix the problem ::)

Water level low, oil level ok, no oil in water.

Needs to go back into the garage for them to clean the breathers, change the oil and Forte flush the engine again (done April 07) - what do I need to get them to replace this time?

General Discussion Area / ATS Bad and Good
« on: 21 December 2007, 21:06:11 »
I got stung £12 today for a puncture repair at ATS  >:(

It got worse though.......as I stopped at the traffic lights down the road I realised I hadn't bothered to look at the wheel.  :-/

Imagine my face when I saw they'd hammered bloody external weights to my lovely alloys  >:(

Swift U turn and brought the thing straight back, stopped on the handbrake and raged into the office......

"Excuse me, I didn't bring the car in with rim weights and I'm sure as hell not going out with them stuck on my wheel"

"Sorry Sir, came the reply, I'll sort it for you now".

And with that, the guy on reception put on his hat and coat and rebalanced the wheel - no fuss, no row, just there you go sir..............

So the £12 doesn't seem so bad now.

Thanks ATS - I think  ;)

What's the most random comment you've heard or said this week?

I'll start you off.....

One of my team dyed her hair blond today.......

Another one said " I thought you fancied Paul and he only likes girls with brown hair"

My reply " That's no problem, now she has both"

Penny took a while to drop for some........................... :-X

General Discussion Area / New Job
« on: 13 December 2007, 22:29:00 »
I got a new job today. :)

No longer I will I be the hated Senior Bank Manager - now I'll be the hated Senior Buisness Manager instead :D

Pay rise :y and best of all I only have to motivate and manage myself each day instead of 25 of my most faithful colleagues :-X

It brings with it a location change too, and now brings me back to Penrith - where I moved from 5 years ago! So 20 mins extra travelling each way along the M6 each day.  The wife clearly doesn't understand - she has suggested I buy a diesel car or even something smaller like a Corsa as mine will cost too much in fuel >:(

Not bloodly likely - that's why I secured the pay rise to cover all fuel costs + large margin for error8-)

General Discussion Area / Vx strike again
« on: 07 November 2007, 20:54:49 »
Mrs C took her car back to Vx today for some warranty work.

It was in 2 weeks ago having new rocker gasket fitted and breather pipe - cos they fill up with shit in less than 6m....anyhoo, I took mechanic out for a ride as the front suspension knocks at low speed too.

Diagnosed as dodgy steering column - having had 2 on my Omega, I disagree, but £500 for nowt is worth having, so all booked in for last week.

Get a phone call 2.15pm - "Can we keep the car until tomorrow....cos we've not ordered the right bits?"

Err..no says I.  She's picking it up at 2.30 so you better put it back together. So they did.

Still with me...good!

Get a phone call today from the wife "I'm in a courtesy car cos they've knacked the RADIATOR and need to fit a new one tomorrow" - she's quite upset. :(

It's an Astra Club :'( ;D

She couldn't understand why I was smiling, so I explained ........

We've had breathers cleaned, oil flush, oil & filter changed, new rocker cover gasket, now we get new radiator, coolant change and refil ready for winter.......and it'll be back next week for more warranty work. I love new cars  :-*

FYI Its an 05 Meriva  :-X
