3.0 Head Gasket or stripped Cam Belt.
« on: 17 December 2011, 15:37:09 »

My Ex has been badgering me all week to lend her one of the Migs so she can go away for xmas with some friends, so gave in and agreed on my ex pold MV6, spent most of the morning doing the checks, Water, Oil, Tyres etc, before handing over the keys and telling Her not to mess with the TC button (LSD!).

So off she goes and jumps on the Motorway, within 15 mins gets a phone call, Battery Lights come on, what do I do, my response, switch off anything not required, get off the motorway and park up some where safe, luckily shes only a couple of junctions away, so off I go.

Turns out the aux belts been thrown off due to a wobbly water pump pulley, Battery fine still fully charged, but on cranking engines spinning really fast, sounds like Cam Belts gone noise, unscrewed left side Cam Cover and pulled appart enough to see the belt turning when cranking, checked water empty, now thinking Head Gasket?

Asked the questions she was driving for no more than 10 mins after Batt light came up and reduced her speed to around 50 before pulling off the motorway, the car started to become unresponsive whilst coming off the slip road.

Cars done 83K with FSH (Police printout) last belt change shows at less than 10k, never had a Head Gasket go before on a Mig but wasn't expecting that to go so quick?

Thoughts or confirmation.

Not a happy Chris.    :( :(

Hmm.10 minutes driving without a water pump may well have done for it, IMHO. :(

Thanks for reminding Albs, still thinking about welding them all together and creating one f off Limousin but what would I call it, MV6 Elite auto lpg diesel CDx eplod manual special with LSD on the back?

The car in question always had a soft spot for Me, being probably the quickies 3.0 Ive ever owned ex Red DPG from the Met, shame really but stuff happens.

 :'( :'( :'(
