Fuse 14 keeps blowing..
« on: 05 September 2008, 22:56:20 »

Pretty much as the title says..

Cig lighter - have been using the rear one to charge my phone/sat nav, but now the winter is coming, want to get it sorted properly!  Not too fussed about the seats, but mirrors, HRW are useful to say the least!

With all the offending switches off, it will still blow, normally on startup.  Whenever I put a multimeter on it, it's fine.

From what I can gather, the following runs off it:

Front Cig lighter
Air recirculation
Leccy Mirrors/heaters
Heated washers (Disconnected for now)
Heated rear window
Heated Seats

As I mentioned, all the switches that can be will be off, yet the fuse still blows after an indeterminate time - any prime suspects?  Any which come on automatically?

You sure?

F14 is currently blown, yet as i said, am currently running phone charger etc from the rear one.  It's the lack or HRW and mirrors thats the killer at the moment..and got sick or replacing the fuse every few days.

Have had another nosey...and think i might have found the problem (baited breath..).  Bared wires at the back of the switch panel are never a good idea in my book; looks like they could have been damaged by the eejut who ham-fistedly installed the stereo (and dislodged most of the heater control hoses) before I bought it.

We shall wait and see..

At least whilst i had the dash in pieces, fixed my non-functioning "S" bulb (flexi-PCB torn..).  Found some more "friendly" bulbs without the metal hooks (but have rounded contacts) from an old Citroen Xantia dash i had lurking in the garage.  Small jumber wire later, and looks good.  Just hope the light doesn't start flashing at me now..

The Xantia had terminal hydraulic failure (main accumulator pipe because some idiot had snapped the mounting bolt off in the gearbox)... so broke it.  Made some of my money back in bits - this was one bit I had left!
