Omega General Help / A bit missing?
« on: 06 December 2018, 19:02:25 »
Ever since I've had the Elite the under dash trim[the bit that has the footwell light in it]has had a habit of dropping down due to there being no clips to hold it at the glovebox end.Up until now I've just kept pushing it back up until it caught on something and held for a short while. Now having a bit of spare time on my hands I had a look at this to finally sort it but for the life of me I can't see where the clips would fasten to under the glovebox. All that seems to be there is a metal[at least I think it's metal]bar/rail running from the centre console area to the passenger end of the dash.Am I missing a part there and if so how does that hold onto the underside of the dash?If I'm not missing a part there where do the clips for the under dash trim hold on?

After last nights shenanigans with step daughters car I was looking forward to a nice relaxing evening, but no.A call from step granddaughter asking if I could run her[they don't have a car]to 3 separate addresses to pick up some Christmassy stuff she'd agreed to buy off Farcebook or some such for her kids.So off we went, ready to return her home when she asked if I could also run her to the supermarket for some shopping! The things I finish up doing for family!!

General Discussion Area / Next step?
« on: 30 November 2018, 12:55:02 »
A short while ago my step daughter decided she'd had enough of driving cheap'n'cheerful and would get a newer-and to her thinking more reliable car.So she got herself a 12plate Meriva on finance[with some kind of warranty.Everything went well for about a monthand then the car took to beeping at her all the time when driving it.She took it back to the trader she'd bought it from who did[or had done-so they told her]a diagnostic test on it that showed a sensor had gone wonky and was registering that a door/the rear hatch[they didn't specify]was open/not properly shut. They then said she'd have to take it to a garage[again unspecified]to be fixed under her warranty. Her worry is that if she does this then this garage will want to do their own diagnostic on it which she'd have to pay for out of her own pocket.I've never had a car with a warranty so don't know the rules of the game for sorting this out.Anyone any ideas as to what advice I can give her to move this forward and get it fixed?

General Discussion Area / Plucky ladies
« on: 29 November 2018, 20:03:43 »
1970 and the London-Mexico rally began among the participants were a team of 3 ladies[Bronwyn'Bron' Burrrel,Tish Ozanne and Tina Kerridge-Reynolds]using a 1500 Austin Maxi.Unfortunately their rally ended in Argentina whilst they were lying 20th.Fast forward to 1997 and "Puff"[they'd called the car Puff the magic dragon]was discovered in a chicken shed, restored and returned to the road.In 2016 the then owner got in touch with Bron and asked if she'd like to buy the car which she promptly did.The plan now is that in 2020 Bron and Tina[Tish passed away in 2009]will re-run the rally in "Puff"to finish the rally begun all those years ago.Plucky ladies and I really hope they make it this time :y

Omega General Help / Temp sender unit
« on: 26 November 2018, 21:30:40 »
I replaced this on mine a short while ago[along with thermostat and coolant temp sensor]foolishly I didn't particularly note how far the old one protruded from the coolant bridge, but from what I can make out from the few pictures of that area I've seen on here it doesn't seem as though mine is now screwed in far enough-although it went tight and I didn't want to force it.If it's not screwed in far enough would this allow coolant to escape around the threads?Reason I ask is that when the car is stood-even for days at a time-the coolant level remains constant[as near as I can tell]where after it has been driven the coolant level will drop quite significantly even after only a few miles.I can't see any coolant dripping off the engine onto the floor,HBV is bone dry, radiator is new and definitely not leaking.Any ideas?

Seems an odd way to lure potential buyers by telling them it's not a popular choice ??? Surely if it's not popular it's because there's something wrong with it compared to the opposition :-X

A court in Guatemala has sentenced a 66yr old ex-soldier to 5,160yrs for being the "author of" an atrocity where 171 people of a village were massacred.

….anything on Talking Pictures TV? Most films are form the black and white era from early Charlie Chaplin silents onwards.Plus they show some of the old TV series such as Hawkeye and The Invisible Man complete with dodgy plots and wobbly scenery etc. but great stuff for nostalgia buffs.

Ordered a new battery for the Omega.I was advised it had been despatched and would be delivered today by Yodel.Sure enough this afternoon a white van[not sign written]pulled up and shortly after there was a knock at the door.As soon as I opened the door one of those electronic things you sign with a plastic stick was thrust at me[not a word spoken by the delivery guy]and he was trying to take it back off me before I'd even finished signing :o Once he did take it from me I got a grudging and very surly "Ta" and off he went.Always a pleasure to see a bloke happy in his work :-X

Omega General Help / M.o.T.
« on: 15 November 2018, 14:55:45 »
Had the Omega in for test today which it promptly failed,threw me a bit of a curve as it failed on emissions and not something mechanical or rusty.It's apparently the lambda readings which are slightly too high.Readings were;
Fast idle test
            CO 0.04%
            HC 21ppm
      Lambda 1.05[should be 0.97-1.03]
Second fast idle test
           CO 0.00%
           HC 4ppm
     Lambda 1.05[should be 0.97-1.03]

Natural idle test

           CO 0.00%

Car was taken for 20 mile blatt down local motorway prior to these readings,no EML or other lights on dash to indicate a fault.Thinking a change of plugs and some injector cleaner in the tank or am I wide of the mark?Any other ideas people?

I know quite a few people like their "cherished plates" or whatever term you wish to use but even though it might be quite special I think that the £460K recently paid for RR1 is still a bit extreme.

Is the face lift 3L[car first registered 1st March 2000]OBDI or OBDII compliant? Or is it some other system altogether?

General Discussion Area / Different attitudes?
« on: 07 November 2018, 18:33:17 »
Watched a programme today about WW1 and it spoke of a daylight air raid on London in 1917.One bomb went through the roof of a school it passed through the top floor killing a little girl as it went passing through the second floor it killed a little boy and went on to explode on the ground floor killing a further 16.According to the head teachers log book this happened shortly before noon and the school was closed for the rest of the day, however the school was open the very next morning and life continued on.If that were to happen today the school would be shut for days, there'd be masses of flowers at least one candle lit vigil and the rest of the pupils offered counselling. Is this different attitudes or different circumstances?

General Car Chat / Original?
« on: 04 November 2018, 08:24:23 »
The rusted wreck of a '60s Mini Cooper S has sold at auction for just north of £17K :o It is said to need a complete new bodyshell along with a new engine and a full restoration. So once it's done how can it be called the same car? Surely they couldn't[even if they wanted]claim it to be original? The big bucks are in original cars with preferably documented sporting history, this one-to me-would be a different car to the one that came from the factory and therefore worth a lot less-if put up for sale-and probably not come close to the costs which will be involved in returning it to the road.I know many if not all classic cars will have had bodywork etc at some point but where does originality end?
