Alex Rins-Suzuki MotoGP rider-was cycling round the track[many riders cycle or run round the track ahead of free practice] on Thursday and not noticing one of the track marshals cars parked there[apparently while cycling he was on his mobile phone]promptly crashed into it and broke his arm putting him not only out of this weekends race but possibly at least the next round too. That's got to have gone down well with the factory/team/sponsors :-X

A group got together and decided it would be a good idea to stage a prank hold up for a You Tube video,so off they went[complete with knives]and staged the hold up at a family trampoline centre in Nashville.Trouble was one of those queuing to get in saw the gang and the knives decided they were under threat and shot one of the gang[a 20yr old]dead. No charges were brought against the shooter.

...watched the opening matches of the six nations tournament? France showed some of their old flair against an admittedly relatively young and inexperienced Italian side.England managed to really mess up[far too many fouls] against a decent Scottish side in the 150th anniversary year of the Calcutta Cup.Wales v Ireland into a bit of a cliffhanger into extra time until it fizzled out with a poor kick. Most of the England team and a couple of the Scots team "took the knee" before the kick off but all took part in a round of clapping in memory of Sir Tom[and others].

A man in Oregon noticed a car parked in a shop parking lot that was not only unlocked but the engine was running,so he stole it only to find there was a 4 year old in the back seat.He immediately returned to the parking lot and on seeing the childs mother set to lecturing her on parenting and threatened to call the police on her before leaving the child with the mother and driving off again in her car!

A merger has been completed between Fiat/Chrysler and the PSA group making this conglomerate reportedly the fourth largest[by volume]car maker in the world. Both the Vauxhall and Opel names will apparently survive under this new agreement.

Recent problems with computer saw my granddaughter turn up to de-bug it and install AVG protection, however since then when I log onto the forum it shows "Not secure" rather than the lock symbol it used to have. How do I get it back to the lock symbol while signing in? Using Google at present.

General Car Chat / Back to Meriva B
« on: 24 November 2020, 15:30:53 »
The other week step daughters Meriva broke down. She said she saw a puff of smoke from under the bonnet[although this might have been steam from a small water leak it had developed now hopefully cured]The engine cut out as she slowed/stopped at a roundabout and wouldn't re-start.The engine turns over[despite what the RAC man told her when he attended-he said it was turning over too quickly]it sounds to me as though it's not turning over fast enough. The battery has been fully charged, there's fuel getting to the fuel rail and a spark at the plugs. When you let go of the key it doesn't immediately spring back, for a fraction of a second it keeps the starter turning and despite the small water leak there was still some coolant visible in the header tank. The car is a 12 plate Meriva B with the 1.4 A14 XER petrol engine.I'm thinking ignition switch and/or starter motor what do you guys think?

General Car Chat / Thermostat
« on: 08 November 2020, 20:43:27 »
I'm back on with step daughters Meriva.Been up to look at it today [despite what the RAC man told her the other day it's turning over normally]Coolant is leaking from the thermostat housing so she's ordered a new one of those but it doesn't come with a thermostat and we can't figure out which thermostat she needs[it was replaced by the garage she bought the car from last year so should still be good but it'd be nice to have one on hand when I do the housing just in case]anyone know a part number or anything for the one she needs?Car is a 12 plate Meriva MKII with the A14 XER engine. TIA.

General Discussion Area / Shower
« on: 07 November 2020, 19:17:48 »
Been to get in shower only to find it's stopped working >:( Pulling the ceiling mounted cord results in the usual loud click, the little rotary thing goes from showing off to on and the little red light illuminates[although it doesn't seem quite as bright as usual-but that could be a false impression]but as soon as button is pressed on shower unit to turn it on the little red light goes out and nothing happens, press the button on the shower as though turning it off and the red light re-appears.The shower is a Triton T80 and is at least 7yrs old if not older. Is it likely to be the shower that's fubar or could it be the pull switch that has a fault meaning it's unable to cope with the load of the shower going on it?

General Car Chat / Number plates
« on: 28 October 2020, 17:58:14 »
It seems to be becoming popular to fit what I can only describe as smoked number plates.I've seen a few cars round here are now sporting them but for some odd reason they seem to be either fitted to the front or rear not both ends on the same car.Presumably illegal as you can't read them from the required distance are they supposed to be anti-camera plates or just the latest chavvy fashion item?
