General Discussion Area / A pity/shout out
« on: 30 September 2012, 07:56:56 »
As a fan of motorcycle racing, and a huge fan of Valentino Rossi since he began his career back in '96 I think it's a pity that barring a miracle he won't win a race on the Ducati. However a BIG shout out for Cal Crutchlow for his performances on the sattelite teams Yamaha, and also to Jonathan Rea for his improving performances as a stand in rider on Casey Stoners factory Honda.

Omega General Help / oil level
« on: 30 September 2012, 07:49:38 »
I was always taught that to check the oil level in a cars engine two things were required, first the car should be level and second that the engine should be stone cold. Now I'm told that to check it on the Omega that the engine should be run up to temperature and then turned off and left for a couple of minutes and then checked.Which is correct?Indeed does it make much if any difference either way?

General Car Chat / am I glad!
« on: 22 September 2012, 19:07:28 »
When I've had cause to remove the battery from the Mig the power sounder has emitted a very feeble and barely audible noise for a couple of seconds.Having read on here about the risk of fire from this item I decided to remove it,I was told that according to the Haynes manual it lives under the left front wing[ admittedly the manual is for the early cars and not my facelift]so I looked on here at the "how to"and found that in fact it's under the scuttle on the drivers side!Am I glad I looked here before doing anything as I'd have been lost when I didn't find it where the manual says it is!Cheers guys!

General Car Chat / window cleaner
« on: 22 September 2012, 18:46:14 »
Just a quick tip on this.Instead of paying out for a dedicated car window cleaner,do as we do at work and use screen wash fluid heavily diluted with water,it's much cheaper and works a treat!

General Discussion Area / Kept
« on: 15 August 2012, 20:23:38 »
The stuff I have kept over the years amazes even me at times.Sorting through some paper work[birth certificate etc.]I found a old driving licence of mine dated 1974!one of the little red"book"types for those of you old enough to remember them.Along with this was a receipt from insurance broker for a 1964 MK 3 Zephyr 4 [so 10 year old car at the time]TPFT me and my dad to drive[I was a learner at the time] cost £36!1974 also saw a fuel crisis with possibility of rationing so car came with a book of ration stamps never needed using, car has long since gone still have ration stamps, never know when they may be needed!

Omega General Help / servo pipe
« on: 15 August 2012, 06:21:16 »
Should the brake servo pipe be" loose"at  the engine end? While the nut that goes into the plenum is tight I can hold the pipe itself and rotate it as far as any free play allows,is this right or should the pipe be immovable?

Omega General Help / breather
« on: 14 August 2012, 18:49:22 »
Apologies if this has been posted before.I seem to have a "spare" pipe at the back of my V6,I understand the auto box has a breather pipe which sits in this area, but this one seems to be a quite large bore pipe for a breather. How big should it be and if it's not that then any ideas what it is/where it should go?

General Discussion Area / OOOPS!
« on: 13 August 2012, 20:14:30 »
Caught a bit on the news this morning about a crash.Apparently a multi billion dollar U.S.Navy guided missile destroyer turned across the path of a freighter/tanker in the Straits of Hormuz and a collision occured resulting in very expensive damage to the U.S.Navy ship. The destroyers captain was on the bridge at the time,so that's his no claims bonus out the window then.Don't fancy seeing his next insurance quote!

General Car Chat / shorthand
« on: 09 August 2012, 20:06:48 »
I'm pretty new to this computer based stuff[not had a mobile phone that long!]and I'm afraid people tend to lose me when they use abbreviations. So at the expense of showing my ignorance but can someone enlighten me on the following what does afaik and pm'd mean?Although  they say ignorance is bliss knowing such minutiae may help me follow threads more easily.

Omega General Help / codes
« on: 09 August 2012, 19:54:55 »
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't find it in F.A.Q's.If a problem has incurred a fault code, when the problem is resolved does this "wipe"the stored code?If it stays stored and I do a paperclip test or put a code reader on it how do I know that it's a current fault that needs sorting or just an old code that has previously been fixed? Also if I fix any problems highlighted how do I  go about eradicating fault codes that are stored?

General Car Chat / MFD
« on: 04 August 2012, 18:59:45 »
I once had a '95 Elite on which some pixels had gone awol on the MFD,I bought a new MFD  but as is the way I scrapped the car before I ever fitted it.I've still got the unit. Now I have a F/L car and although the MFD  is perfect I'd like to know if the spare unit will fit.I seem to recall that they were changed at some point, something to do with the plugs on the back being a different colour or some such.So do I keep it as a spare or sack it off on e-bay or similar?

I've read that along with geoff Hughes,we've also lost Sergio Pininfarina. To my mind one of the greats of car styling.
