General Discussion Area / Secret factory
« on: 13 December 2019, 22:05:51 »
Watched a programme tonight on Yesterday channel[don't know whether it was a repeat or not] about a secret factory complex the Nazis built at the beginning of WWII.It made a third of all munitions used on the Russian front during the war.The complex was built in Poland, covering 25square kilometres of woodland and was still in production until 5 days before the Russians over ran the place at which point it was the first time the allies even knew of its existence! It produced nitro glycerine, smokeless gunpowder and millions of rounds of rifle bullets. It was also used as a secret test facility for various new weapons such as an air bomb for firing from the Nebelwerfer multi launcher and the ill fated V4 weapon which could fly at speeds of 6,200kph :o A really fascinating programme showing the lengths the Germans went to in construction both to keep it such a secret and also to protect individual parts of the complex from any possible explosion in any part of it.

General Car Chat / Don't think that's right
« on: 09 December 2019, 17:07:04 »
A while ago I mentioned on another thread that someone near me has an Austin Ambassador.A few weeks ago they put it onto axle stands[front and rear] so all the tyres were an inch or two off the floor and put a car cover over it.Been past it today, car cover still in place as are axle stands only now while the n/s tyres are still in the air the front n/s is firmly on the floor and the n/s rear is just touching the floor. As the car is on a concrete driveway I think the owner may have a slight problem :D

Omega General Help / Fan switches
« on: 08 December 2019, 10:02:46 »
I'm going to replace both radiator fan switches to try to cure the fans continually running once they start up[hopefully it's not the water pump that's not up to the job],looking on e-bay there appears to be two types of top switch-one with a two pin connector and one with a three pin-having looked at my car it's a three pin so that's fair enough. Question is-to save me grovelling under the car too often-are the bottom switches like the top one and a choice of either two or three pin connectors?

General Discussion Area / Amazing!!

Labour are hitting out at Johnson/the Tories over the early release of the convicted terrorist who committed yesterdays attack in London. With Corbyns track record I don't see how they dare! I agree he shouldn't have been released early[shouldn't have been release at all]but for Labour to start pointing the finger is laughable. At least the police got the correct result this time.

If/when I record something [rugby/BSB/WSB etc]and then replay it all is straightforward, just press play and away it goes but if/when I record MotoGP off BTSport when I go to replay it I get the on screen message that in order to watch it I have to enter my PIN  number if I want to watch it before 10p.m. ??? ???

General Discussion Area / How far over.....
« on: 25 October 2019, 19:13:46 »
...can a motorbike go before it can't be saved? I know the racing riders support/hold the bike up with their knees/elbows,but watching the mandatory tyre testing they had after the free practice sessions Marquez lost the front on a corner and managed to save it-although he did run onto the grass. The replay with the on board telemetry showed the bike at a lean angle of 70 degrees :o :o

General Discussion Area / What's going on?
« on: 20 October 2019, 11:21:19 »
If I enter Amazon.co.uk it comes up with an account held by one of my granddaughters,to access my account I have to go Amazon.com ok so this is no great hardship, however I'm after ordering a book which on co.uk is available from only one seller at a cost of £5 and free postage where on .com it again comes up with only one seller[but different to the first one]and that same book has postage on it and a cost of £10.34p :o So why can I not access the first seller from my account?

General Discussion Area / Phone a friend?
« on: 19 October 2019, 19:02:12 »
Two lady drivers driving in opposite directions where there's only room for one stream of traffic] down my road a short while ago,one in a 55 plate 5 series BMW estate the other in a 55 plate 5 series BMW saloon drove head on into each other at about 15-20mph each car :o neither seemed to notice the other until pretty much the time of impact.Fortunately neither driver appears to have been seriously hurt. Both were on their mobile phones at the time :-XThe road is only just now being opened up again as both wrecks of course blocked the only space available to any other traffic.I know it's illegal to use a hand held phone while driving but surely holding a phone to your ear and talking doesn't impair your vision through the windscreen?

Saw yesterdays first race from Magny Cours, what a great race :y The lead changed multiple times throughout,a fair bit of paint exchanged[rubbing is racing]a couple of "offs"-thankfully without injury-and a few nearlys all capped off with a pretty emotional winner. For those who haven't seen it but are interested there's a highlights programme on ITV4 on Tuesday at 8pm.

« on: 29 September 2019, 07:56:48 »
I have one of those Tivo boxes from VM which seems to decide to record things it "thinks" I might like.I don't mind this so much as I can delete them as I wih, however on Friday it recorded the live transmission of free practice for the WSB races where yesterday it didn't record the live qualifying/first race but then later recorded the highlights ??? What's going off with it?

My son sent me a link[I don't know how to repeat them onto here] to an event that took place in America. This was a fun run covering a distance of 0.5K-yes that's correct half a kilometre-which at the half way point had a rest stop where there was available beer, donuts and a smoking area :D Think I'll have to get into training for that one,it sounds like my kind of event ;D :y
