Omega General Help / Brown interior
« on: 23 September 2016, 09:06:20 »
How rare is the brown interior in UK? I mean the one with brown dash/plastics, brown steering wheel etc? Not the most common one in any case, Opel or Vauxhall. Was it available with any paint colour or just for certain ones?

I have just found a blue car MY2000 with brown interior and have some plans... which leads to another question: how to tell the missus /SWMBO that I really need an Omega again...   :D

Omega General Help / Steering box removal (LHD car)
« on: 30 September 2014, 10:30:37 »
I know most of you have the steering on the wrong side but still I hope someone could help me. I'm removing the steering box to replace it. Have read through TIS which says to remove
- ECU/fuse box (done)
- ABS unit (no, not really, do I have to...)
- brake servo (which I do not believe)
- aircon pipes (which I'd like to avoid until it's imperative).

So far I have the box bolts off the frame, connection to steering wheel open, box is moving forward but still far, far away from coming off. Next step is to remove ABS unit. What I need to take care of? Does it have to be bled afterwards and is this "TECH2 only" -job? AC pipes I do not care, some gas will leak out but I won't be telling anyone... Any hints what to do, what parts are needed to come off and which parts are unnecessary to remove, although mentioned in TIS?

When I have the box out I will be replacing leaking AC compressor seals and possibly do the exhaust manifold gasket as I suspect it's leaking and I will now have room to do it. Anytjing else that should be done at hte same time?

Omega General Help / Oil cooler: where to buy
« on: 16 September 2014, 17:30:24 »
Need an oil cooler as one X25XE engined Omega is leaking coolant, have removed the old one and naturally threads stripped on both ends of cooler  >:( Also, the lid was quite badly corroded so even if I'd manage to reuse the cooler would suspect a short life.

GM dealer says that these are no longer available. They are, I know, but where to look? Ebay ones, eg this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Vauxhall-Vectra-Signum-2-5-2-6-3-2-V6-Oil-Cooler-Radiator-93176626-/281381249969?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4183a123b1 any good?

Dowtys and oil pipe seals are available with reasonable price from the marbel-desk...

General Car Chat / My Omega-owner era is ending
« on: 26 June 2014, 07:52:31 »
For a while I've been looking a replacement to my Omega, somehow I have got fed up with the car in general and the steering problem still persists and I don't have the energy to hassle with it anymore.

I have always wanted to have a Citroen C5 due to its hydractive suspension and now I bought one. A 2007 estate 2,0 petrol engine, in a good condition, excellent IMHO. So, now I'm trying to sell my Omega (with very little luck (or with wrong price)).

What I do already miss is the power of the Omega. Comfort and silence, C5 offer these, but when driving on motorway 120 km/h and you floor it... well...nothing happens in this Citroen, compared to Omega...

However, I will not abandon this forum and there will still be an Omega in my life (no, not the watch, my fathers car...) and I still hope I can share some of my Omega-experience over the last decade.

It is too early to say thanks or goodbye as the car still sits in front of my house but you have been warned  :D

General Car Chat / Renault Grand Scenic electronic handbrake
« on: 04 May 2014, 20:39:03 »
I'm getting desperate with my MY2006 Grand Scenic, it has no handbrake (broken) and MOT is getting closer. A new electric unit would be 1300 eur from the dealers so that is out of the question. Have been looking for a second hand unit but in Finland seems difficult to find. As I'm no ttoo familiar with breakers and their habits I'm asking if anyone knows anyone who might have this part in their breakers... or could give a hint who to mail/calll for such part.

Omega General Help / Oil level sensor
« on: 26 March 2014, 08:57:54 »
Mine is playing up, giving "check oil level" every 12 minutes on MID, level is fine on oil stick. Is it possible to clean the sensor or is it only to put a new one in? I know I'll have to drop the sump but before that I'd need to decide is it must to put a new sensor in? What kind of money we are talking about, is this a "dealer only"- part or are there any pattern ones? One option is to cut the wires from sensor and join them to each other.

Omega General Help / Major oil leak
« on: 21 January 2014, 09:00:09 »
Yesterday morning, minus 25 degrees Celsius, driving to work and suddenly left side of engine bay is full of oil. Blown cam cover gasket was the first assumption, which can be right. Could not tell looking at the gasket while removing the covers. They look intact. Mystery starts here: the breather system is clean as a whistle! Some oil residue, yes, nothing else, no crud, no mayo anywhere. Down inside air intake, in the bottom of bagpipe system, some moisture was found, mainly water I think, but nothing to block anything.

Question is: what else could be leaking? If it was oil filter housing or oil cooler hoses the oil pressure would have dropped? Head gasket would leak water?

I have never ever seen nor heard an Omega suffering from frozen breathers, Vectra C with 3,2 engines do have this problem but never an Omega. Also never in my past this has occured and it has been colder around here and also have had non-serviced breathers on Omegas which have survived the winter.

Yesterday it took some two hours to wash the engine and clean all parts up, today I'm planning to put in new (GM) cam cover gaskets and o-rings with some black goo, fill up the oil and see if it is cured. Only two years back the gaskets were replaced and breathers have been cleaned at least once since that.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Connectors behind interior light
« on: 03 January 2014, 06:43:21 »
While retro-fitting auto-dimming mirror I found several spare connectors behind the interior light above rear view mirror. One is for microphone, that I could make up (the one with only two wires, very small connector). Three are unknown. One is similar to the connector for the light, one is square with five wires, one is looking very "technical" and rectangular in shape.

What are these for? One is for mic, I assume one for sunroof, one for rain sensor, one for something? But none for mirror? From which one of these I can take power and ground for mirror?

Omega General Help / Leaking air con?
« on: 12 December 2013, 09:47:44 »
Just happened to look under my car the other day only to see if everything is ok. Was not. Should not have looked there. Aircon pump had a few drops of green stuff on it. It's not coolant as coolant is red, not PAS fluid as it is red/brown/black, nor engine oil. It can not be refrigerant, can it? How to find out where it is coming from as sight and access are quite limited? Is the refridgerant green?

Need auto-dimming rear view mirror as I'm tempted to replace my manual mirror with automatic.

Airbag light is on, drivers squib high resistance and have measured that the rotary-thingy with half-a-mile flat cable inside under the steering wheel would be faulty so need one of those "what-do-you-call-it". Squib?

So, if anyone has these and would be kind enough to send them to Finland by mail please PM me.

Omega General Help / Rain sensor and specific windscreen
« on: 07 November 2013, 13:02:18 »
It's always good to have plans for the future and I have thought of adding rain sensor to my car. I have read the how-to, also I do realize there is a sepcific windscreen for models with rain sensor but as I have recenlty renewed my "normal" windscreen I must ask for knowledge and/or opinions if I could still fit rain sensor and slightly modify the "normal" screen by paint/tape/window tint film/ something? In general, why does the sensor need the black part in screen? I think you could just put a piece of window tint film on the windscreen with suitable hole for the sensor? Why not?

Omega General Help / Steering stiff again (colder mornings)
« on: 09 September 2013, 08:51:32 »
Have had this problem for a good while http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=85159.0

Now, when mornings are colder it is getting worse again. When warm nothing. And this stiff spot/blind spot is only when turning left.

To rule out more components I need to know more about how steering and PAS work. Is there any valves that could be sticking? Does servotronic relay know if I'm turning left or right or does it only know I turn?

I suspect steering box is faulty but what exactly could be broken in it? It behaves ok when warm. Fluid has been changed a few times with no luck (Dex II)

Omega General Help / Door pillar black protection tape
« on: 05 April 2013, 11:06:17 »
Havin recently learned some painting and now trying to put all back together (as well as trying to get the car shine) I'm after some detail part info:

rear door opening is protected with this kind of "tape" in the area where door seal meets the wheel arch/door pillar
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vauxhall-Omega-B-rear-RH-door-lock-stone-protection-foil-vinyl-/290531570424?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a507f2f8

What is commonly used to replace these? 15 euros for a piece of tape sounds a bit steep to me  :-\
