Omega General Help / Re-curring fault.
« on: 15 January 2008, 15:17:10 »
A little help for a friend would be much appreciated please, He drives a 2001 Y plate 2.6 Elite auto, 270k, yes that was 270,000 miles. Fault code P0130, lamda sensor, bank 1 position 1, little or no activity, has come up again, this is the 3rd time. The sensor was replaced with a genuine VX part, car has been ok for months and has now brought the EML on again, same code. Code was cleared and again car ok for a while. Code now on again, sensor replaced with a known good 2nd hand one. This seems to happen if he fills up at the local Esso station, can the type of fuel affect things like this? Any other ideas, all wiring has been checked and double checked, continuity tested as far as possible, no signs of contamination on the old sensors. Help.

Omega General Help / high level brake light
« on: 13 January 2008, 19:06:27 »
Just bought a new high level brake light off e-bay. My car doesn't already have one so it's a bit of an upgrade. Is the wirng and multi plug already fitted into the car? I've seen an article on how to fit this part somewhere but can't find it again. Can anyone guide me in the right direction please?

« on: 01 December 2007, 08:48:33 »
Bought a new ICV from IMF Vauxhall through ebay for £28.99 ( free postage ) it came with a gasket and is working a treat, good saving on the £76 + vat that a genuine part costs. Hope it lasts.

Omega General Help / Manual gearbox oil
« on: 07 November 2007, 09:53:33 »
Had the gearbox out a few months ago to replace rear crank oil seal, filled gearbox with hypoid ep90 gear oil, all has been ok until the cold spell we are having now, gear change awful. Took the excellent advice found on this forum and put the correct oil in, Vauxhall transmission oil £12.50 a litre, 1.2 litres needed. Expensive job but well worth it, lovely gear change now, even when cold.
Help needed - Y reg 2.6 ELITE auto - display is reading " LOW VISION   FL/D VISION " intermittently, any ideas, theres nothing in the handbook. Suggestions appreciated.

Need a new ICV for my 1995 2.0 CD, done all the usual cleaning of breathers etc. The trade club price is about £75, I have seen new ones on e-bay for £18.90, quite a difference, has anybody used one of these cheap ones and do they do the job?

Newbie Welcome Area / New member
« on: 03 October 2007, 11:05:58 »
Hello to all members from todays newbie. I am currently on my 3rd Omega, a 1995 N 2.0 CD 4 door. Love these cars for the comfort. In January 2006 I had a fairly new Laguna 1.9 DCI which I took abroad twice, top MPG, can't think of anything else to say about the Laguna!!!  Anyway the Omega came along and just like buying a pair of shoes you know straight away that all is well, sold the Laguna and dropped 8 years in the age of the car, a 2003 to a 1995. Just been to sunny Spain in the Omega, 38.9 MPG overall, not bad for a car which cost me £300.
Regards to all

General Car Chat / More Omegas at auction
« on: 12 November 2009, 15:50:42 »
First of all, it's happened again !!! I've been made redundant for the 3rd time since September 2008, getting used to it now.
Anyway, while at SMA in Leeds last night there were 2 Mig estates on sale, here are the details and prices as far as I can remember
X- Facelift 2.2 CD Auto estate in gold, very tidy bodywork, engine sounded nice, bit of an exhaust blow, showing 267,000 miles, miles declared as incorrect, dash and steering wheel well worn but bodywork good, not even any marks on the alloys, MOT Oct 2010, no tax. Final hammer price £575.
X-MV6 3.0 estate,  88000 miles, silver, exhaust blowing and not as tidy as the previous one,slight damage to rear bumper, tax and test to end of Jan 2010, £550
As said these are the car details I can recall, prices are correct though.

General Car Chat / 4 or 6 cylinder
« on: 17 July 2009, 19:20:28 »
Before you all start reaching for the keyboard, please read on.
I have just returned to work after 2 redundancies in 7 months and am currently running a 2.0 petrol Laguna, 1998 S reg, its not a bad car and apart from a slight oil leak it does the job. I get 60 miles to a tenners worth of petrol, however work pays me 40p a mile on business miles, this has to include insurance, tax repairs etc.The first 16 miles of every day are not claimed as this is the distance from home to office and back, my journeys are mixed, 40% in traffic, 60% A roads.
I am very keen to get back into a Mig, preferably an estate car. I estimate that I will do about 15000 miles a year at work, and at least one trip to Spain in the car, possibily two, funds permitting.
So heres the question;
Overall, including repairs, fuel and insurance, does a 2.5 V6 cost that much more to run than a 4 cylinder
2.0 or 2.2. The bigger 3.0 and 3.2 are not a realistic option for me.I have no preference for manual  or auto, but from my own Mig experiences, the autos are heavier on fuel.
Your comments would be appreciated.

General Car Chat / Omegas at auction
« on: 02 June 2009, 06:33:38 »
To try and relieve the boredom of unemployment I had a ride to Scottish Motor Auctions at Livingston last night with my old boss, there were a couple of Omegas in the sale and for anyone who is interested, here are the details;

Y reg, 2001, 2.6 V6 GLS 4 door saloon in Dark Metallic Blue, 72000 miles,( miles guaranteed ) manual, short MOT, no tax, clean and tidy, a few stone chips and car park scars on the doors, engine sounded nice but engine management light on, alloys, good tyres, tow bar with twin electrics, final bid was £525, provisional sale (seller may want more as it did not meet the reserve price).

02( 2002 ) 2.2 CDX Auto Estate, black metallic, 56000 miles( miles were guaranteed ) short MOT, very clean and tidy, front and rear bumper damaged right in the middle- creased but not broken ( repairable, no need to replace )-engine sounded nice, needed a good valet, no tax, looked like a funeral car but it wasn't. £1100, again a provisional sale.

The estate in particular was a lot of car for that sort of money, whether the seller - British Credit Trust - accepted the bid I don't know, it may be back in for the next sale on Thursday, if you are interested try their website at smag.co.uk, select the Livingston sale for thursday 4th June, reg for the estate DN02 VKC. Same applies for the saloon, that was entered by a main dealer - Arnold Clark - I think, reg is Y382 DRP.

General Discussion Area / A fond farewell
« on: 24 July 2010, 10:46:07 »
It has been some time since I last posted on the forum and this will sadly ( for me anyway ) be the last time. After being made redundant 3 times since Sep 2008 I have gone back into taxi driving, one has to make a living somehow. The age/emissions restrictions of the licencing authority mean that an Omega is not an option as a taxi, even on LPG, the car must be registered on or after 01/05 to be acceptable. Time/space and ultimately money also rule out having one as a weekend car.
So many thanks to all members who gave excellent technical advice and I hope I may have helped others.
It's goodnight from him.

General Discussion Area / 1000 kms of Le Mans at Silverstone
« on: 13 September 2009, 22:14:00 »
Just back from the race today. What a fabulous day out. Totally different to the strict exclusions of F1. Walk into the pit garages during the race, watch the telemetry and even have it explained, autograph hunt ( got Nigel Mansells at last ), my mate even came away with a used race tyre, and the Michelin tyre team collapsed it for him to make it easier to carry. Totally relaxed surroundings, no parking problems, £25 in, go where you like, sit where you like, even walk the pit lane and grid before the race. Highly reccommended. No more shelling out £250 for a F1 ticket for this OOFer.

Been doing a bit of research as I am trying to get back into Omega ownership now that I am working again. These are actual auction prices for Omegas at the various Scottish Motor Auction Group sites - SMAG.co.uk
Read like this;
Make/model / body type / date first registered / MOT / miles, and finally price.
Hope it makes interesting reading.
