The pipe to the jet may be kinked where it runs inside the framework of the bonnet. The two wires are for heating the jets in cold weather to stop them freezing up, the heating comes on with the rear window and door mirrors I think. Fron inside the bonnet there are two pieces attached to the jet assembly to hold it in place, you must push these in to release the jet assembly, don't prise it out from the outside or you will break the retaining pieces and scratch your bonnet. Take the feed pipe off and operate the washers, this should flush any debris out which is too big to pass through the jets. Blow through the jets both ways, you will know if they are blocked as your face will go red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finallc check that the feed pipe is not kinked where it is attached to the left hand bonnet hinge or where it attaches to the jet itself.
Good luck

Omega General Help / Re: Can I use biodiesel in my 2.5TD 1999 meega?

Between Lewes and Uckfield I came upon a service station selling a 50/50 biodiesel/low sulphur diesel fuel. Reduce your carbon footprint read their ad, but with a proviso that you should check it was okay for your car and that they wouldn't be liable!
At 99.9p I was too tempted and put 20 litres in to test it. With over 25lt normal diesel already in the tank I reasoned that I would end up with an approximate 25/75 mix. Surely this would be okay. Well the car behaved perfectly well on the 5 miles to get home so I'm hopeful. :)
Anybody know if the car can run okay on the stuff for sure?
Not cetain at all. My pals 57 plate Passat has a sticker near the filler neck warning against the use of biodiesel. Who knows for sure?

Omega General Help / Re: X20XEV. 7.1 MPG when accelerating
« on: 30 January 2008, 19:11:31 »
I've never had the pleasure of any Omega except the 4 pot 2.0 litre, both auto and manual, my last auto was significantly heavier on fuel than all the manuals i've had.I currently get 55 miles for a tenner, but a tenner is only 2 gallons and on a steady motorway run I get 38 mpg. Its not the car its the price of the fuel. REMEMBER VOTE LABOUR AND PAY FOR THEIR PENSIONS.

Omega General Help / Re: Long trip ahead.

I bought my omega last month which came with a full service history, strangely though not main dealer, anyway, i will be driving it down to spain in three weeks time and was wondering if there is anything i should be doing to it or checking before i go. I plan to do about 3000+ miles in the space of 3 weeks so any advice welcolme. Also can anyone recommend a european breakdown cover.
cheers. :y
This is a trip I do at least once a year, good preparation is the key, members on the forum will know more than me about the nuts and bolts.Carry the obvious things, spare fan belt, oil, bulbs and nowadays a high viz coat which you must wear if you get out on the motorway. Also the tyre tread limit is different, I think it is 3mm not 1.6 as in the UK. I get my breakdown cover with QUOTELINE DIRECT.  £59 for the year, 24/7/365 cover at home and up to 90 days abroad, it is with Mondial Assistance. You must have your car checked by a vat registered garage 14 days before the trip, but it is something most drivers would do anyway. I have never had to use them so can't tell you what the service is like if you do break down.It is internet only, www.quotelinedirect.co.uk, print your own certificate and do your own amendments without waiting on a phone line. Have a nice holiday

Omega General Help / Re: Suspension replacement

I am interested in replacing the springs and shocks all round on my ex-police meega with standard items, does anybody know online shops that sell them.
Only places I can see are ebay which has both springs and shocks and also buypartsby which has KYB gas shocks but only lowering springs (which I don't want).
Also does anybody know what vauxhall charge for these items for a 1999 3.0 MV6. Although I am not bothered if they are not the "lowered" MV6 suspension units.

Cheers Karl
Trade club red book - Vauxhall dealers
front - £44.60 trade not lowered sports chassis( each )

rear ( saloon) not self levelling or sports £44.60( each )
They are trade club prices, I don't have the new yellow book yet.
All of course plus Gordon's added tax.

Omega General Help / Re: new key
« on: 04 February 2008, 17:00:22 »
If I am not mistaken you will need the CAR PASS which came with the car, its credit card size and is usually in with the handbook etc, this has the necessary codes on it. If you haven't got it you can get a replacement from a VX dealer, about £25 IIRC. The part of the key which contains the battery etc can be got seperately and use your existing metal part I think, once you have these a dealer or someone with Tech 2 can re-programme your key.
Someone may correct me on this as some of the mobile key specialists may have access to the software by now.

EGR is the chunk of steel on the opposite side of the inlet plenum from the idle valve.

Its straighforward to get an irn bru can and cut out the shape of the EGR base with scissors then insert it like a gasket.  Should resolve very quickly any potential prob with the valve.  Its only (I think) to lean down the air ratio when cruising, not at tickover...

I though EGR was something being nice to the Ozone :-?

It is....

Leans the air mixture by introducing exhaust gas in as a % so that it further burns and reduces CO2 output...
Trust Brucie to have an empty Irn Bru can handy.

Omega General Help / Re: need a car respray

hi i have just bought a omega 2.0 with a body kit on it and the car needs a respray. the last person who had it has didn't have a clue and started the premier and then gave up and sold it to me.
dose anyone know someone that can spray cars. on a bit of a low budget . any help would be much appreciated.

many thanks james
As a rough guide, a professional respray costs about £160 per panel, a panel is a door, or a bonnet, a roof , a boot, a quarter etc. About 11 panels for a four door car, plus bumpers if they are colour coded. Work your way down from there. With all the new regulations from the health and safety nazis and water based paints, environmental disposal etc  it is no longer a cheap adventure. Find a friend with a Clarke compressor and loads of wet and dry to make it cheaper.

Omega General Help / Re: Fleabay - Genuine Exhaust?

Anyone had a custom stainless system fitted, out of interest? I'm considering it at some point in the next year, for longevity, added shinyness, and a bit more noise when I really, um, open the taps... but still civilised for a motorway cruise or shopping trip...

you will find you can have one or the either.......but not both.....
you can have sporty or quiet, some companies will offer a compromise, but then you will find anything more than a light throttle will generate noise, and dependent on the revs can sometime generate a droning noise.

Be careful of some of the exhaust manufacturers, there are some that will make the exhaust out of stainless and then use mild steel fo the hangers (what they don't tell you is that the hangers don come inder the warranty  >:( )

Exactly right Sir Jay, I fitted a non GM cat and front pipe and I am now driving an Alfa sound a like, it fitted well, first time but you are spot on with the " droning ", its like having her indoors in the car permanently !!

hi,im new to this site but finding it very fascinating.got a 2.5td p reg auto estate, only getting 15-20 mpg,not booting it as cant afford to,changed oil,air and fuel filter.no obvious sign of fuel leek, car driving and gear changing smoothly my first omega and cant fault a thing except the fuel consumption.can anyone pleeeeeeeeeeeeze help :y :y
The BMW sourced engine is a big one, and a 6 potter, you should be getting a bit more that 15 / 20 mpg though. Try a friendly MOT station and have an emissions check done, that should tell you if there is anything wrong, I used a manual one as a taxi back in 1995 and I got about 30mpg on mixed runs, town, motorway etc. Some of the other drivers had 2.0 petrol omegas at that time, the consumption was nearly the same for the petrols as it was for the dervs. Also are you using proper fuel, shell / bp/ esso etc and not Sainsbury's crappy City diesel, it does make a difference in my experience.

Omega General Help / Re-curring fault.
« on: 15 January 2008, 15:17:10 »
A little help for a friend would be much appreciated please, He drives a 2001 Y plate 2.6 Elite auto, 270k, yes that was 270,000 miles. Fault code P0130, lamda sensor, bank 1 position 1, little or no activity, has come up again, this is the 3rd time. The sensor was replaced with a genuine VX part, car has been ok for months and has now brought the EML on again, same code. Code was cleared and again car ok for a while. Code now on again, sensor replaced with a known good 2nd hand one. This seems to happen if he fills up at the local Esso station, can the type of fuel affect things like this? Any other ideas, all wiring has been checked and double checked, continuity tested as far as possible, no signs of contamination on the old sensors. Help.

A long time ago I had a similar problem on my 3,0 Capri. It turned out to be a piece of paper in the fuel tank, probably from someone using paper as a funnel in the filler neck. When the fuel dropped to a certain level the paper was sucked onto the fuel pick up pipe by the action of the fuel pump blocking the fuel supply. After letting the car stand for a few minutes it would start again as the paper had floated away from the pick up pipe. I note that you have had a new pump fitted, it might be worth checking that the pick up pipe is clear, with no EML on it could be something as daft as this.

Omega General Help / Re: high level brake light
« on: 13 January 2008, 23:08:28 »
Its a brand new genuine VX part, it was only £4 so if it dont work i won't be losing much sleep. It will be an additional lamp so hopefully it won't affect the check system.

Omega General Help / Re: high level brake light
« on: 13 January 2008, 19:50:39 »
Thanks for the quick replies, never gave the check system a thought. A lot of the earlier saloons like mine have the extra brake light, I fancied fitting this as the position of the standard lights on the edge of the body are in a poor place in my humble opinion, noticed this when I was behind a P reg  at traffic lights, his brake lights looked very poor when compared to the other newer cars around.I'll give it a go and let the forum know how it went. Once again, thanks.
