Was at Riat on Saturday with the lad, very very good show, best for many years and the flypast with the arrows was very good.

That display smacks of "fick the fatigue life"  :D :D

I took some pickys of Avro's finest and a few other things at Waddington a few years back.
I'll dig them out later when I finish work and stick them on here for you lot to enjoy  :y :y

Recently found out that the Saturday display - the one that features in the films I linked to (and please don't think I took them .. way more professional than anything I could do !) - broke some of the "rules" of the display and the pilot got the equivalent of a "yellow card" ....

I still think it was brilliant  :y :y :y

Must be like driving a car capable of 200 mph and not going above 70, I noticed in the display he came very close to doing a roll a couple of times which apparently is a no no.....
It will be a shame to see her grounded, but recall reading somewhere that a lot of other charity lead machines have really been struggling to keep going, so there may be a benefit at the end......

Its a fantastic aircraft to watch, you spend all day watching loud fast jets and then she takes off, if you close your eyes you would think its still fast jets!

I have some footage but not up to the standard of above, just very pleased that 'the lad' got to experience one flying.

The replacements for your old steed look impressive to Nigel, in fact 'bonkers' was a word used  :y

Looks a very similar cockpit view to an aerotow launch.. with 9 tug aircraft, and going a bit quicker. ;)

Back when I was a cadet I managed to blag a tour of the XH558 and to sit in the pilot's seat.  This was the year it was first grounded.  I remember getting asked if I had seen the film Thunderball and if I could spot the deliberate mistake in it. ;D

I am pretty sure that it was also my first Airfix :y

I still recall with schadenfreude the following incident in the early 70's relating to a Vulcan. I was at Waddington with a Nimrod and also with most, if not all, other RAF A/C types, for an air display for the Imperial Defence College, guests at which were high ranking officers from  - it seemed - all the world's armed forces. At some point before the show all the display crews were gathered in a  briefing room, probably with about 100 crew members altogether. A junior officer came in and shouted "Is the Vulcan Captain here?" Cue a tall suave Sqn Ldr, who tried not to swagger as he left the room. Two minutes later he came back in, less the swagger, and to his 5 man crew, including the crew chief, said: " I'm sorry chaps, the station commander wants us to clean the aircraft!"

The sight of the six of them trying to polish the football field sized underwing area of the Vulcan with Wadpol will remain with me forever. ;D ;D ;D :y
