General Car Chat / Cars are changing too much
« on: 19 August 2011, 19:37:09 »
Been having a little drive of my dads Corsa SE the past couple of days, the 1.3 CDTi Start/Stop model it is, very good little engine, and the car itself is pure class really is, has everything anyone could need, heated seats, half leather trim, heated steering wheel, MP3 CD Player, AUX input, auto lights, wipers, very comfortable for little car too! Average MPG is 55 MPG, and as it's not even run in yet, so that'll be class when it's all loosened up nicely.

One thing I don't like is this Start/Stop malarky, it's so odd it's unreal, out of gear into neutal it conks out, dip the clutch and it starts back up, now as I've been driving since 1986, this is too odd for my liking and I always turn it off (which is good that you can), but I think things are changing too much just for emissions anyone else agree on that  :-?

General Car Chat / Injectors
« on: 22 August 2011, 08:20:01 »
Just after a bit of advice really, my van had new injectors under warranty all is well, but now it sounds like it's knocking, if it were a petrol you'd say it was pinking. Any ideas what this could be?

General Car Chat / Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 Misfire
« on: 22 August 2011, 16:57:20 »
Evening people, much to my idiocy I've just purchased a 2000 'X' plate Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 estate which has a misfire when you accelerate, starts ok ish, but if you accelerate it's like it's choking. Any ideas what this could be. £150 notes though bargain :)

General Car Chat / Poor Vauxhall Dealership yet again
« on: 15 August 2011, 19:04:40 »
Had my 2010 '10' (Yes just a year old) Astra Van into my local dealer 2 times in the last month for a sticking calliper, first time I'm told it's tracking, second time I'm told it's tracking again, I then kicked up and said it's not so you sort the calliper, they say ok, if we take the calliper apart we'll charge you, the van is still under warranty until 2013 so that's a no go, I then said how do you know it's the tracking, to my amazment the qualified mechanic (Sorry technician) said to me "Well we don't know, but it's just what we assume to be the problem". So they wouldn't sort the calliper, or investigate my smoking on start up issue.

Anyway I take it to a different dealer this morning (FG Barnes), drop it off, about 20 miles away, go home, get a call expecting the same scenario, but I get "Hello Mr.B****, we've replaced you're passenger side calliper under warranty, although there is still a braking imbalance somewhere, so we're going to source this problem and rectify it, and we'll check first thing in the morning for your smoking issue as the van is still warm at the minute, is that ok or do you need your vehicle for this evening" Now that is what I call good service!

Everyone just a quick note, avoid Caffyns like the plauge if you can!

General Car Chat / MG ZT 2.5 V6
« on: 04 August 2011, 18:09:28 »
Right guys, should have one of these coming tomorrow on an 04 Plate, it's the baby 2.5 the 160, getting it for a stupidly low price, what do I need to look out for, cambelt history, headgasket, clutch, gearbox. Anything else?

General Car Chat / Diesel Injectors
« on: 27 July 2011, 17:31:45 »
Thought I'd ask here as every other forum hasn't answered me for ages (I should know by now to ask here first  ;D) Anywho, I was wondering can you get diesel injectors cleaned or do you have to buy new, or even better could I clean them myself?
