Is it towards the rear of the tray where everything gets crowded on the 246 bank ?

About halfway between where the main loom enters the tray and the back end.

One wire becomes three... The common feed to each coilpack and a much smaller wire that runs to the suppressor bolted to the back of the 246 head.

This wire is definitely brown and runs to a long plug near the rear multiram. This then goes to the suppressor. Can break off the suppressor. I emphasise the colour because it is a permanent live rather than a ground, so if you find it detached, for the love of God, DO NOT ground it (this thin wire becoming detached is unlikely to be your problem, but obviously not a good idea to leave it waving around...)

Did you disprove the coil pack?  Loom faults do happen, but are surprisingly rare on the Omega, bar the boot and front electrics (fog lights, temp sensor, horn etc)

The compression is probably slightly lower on that cylinder due to a bit of bore wash if its not firing properly.


Don't discount the plug being faulty either.

While a worn out plug is obvious, a faulty new(ish) one could easily look OK. £2 on a replacement would be a sensible precaution.

Havent yet disproved coil pack or plugs. Im still working on the basis that it only happened after I changed the cambelt, so is likely to be related to that. Bearing in mind that I have checked the cam timing again and found it to be spot on, my current favourite is DG,s theory on the engine wiring loom as that was disturbed during the process.
After that it will be check engine earth, swap coil packs, then....................anyone want to buy a V5 Omega ?

Cam cover gaskets done and breathers cleaned. Also found a fixed a vac leak and rerouted the vac pipes to what I think is now correct.

Zeke has repaid me by making his exhaust blow even louder than it was... Once unSORNed next month I will be taking a trip to the welderd.

Been fighting with the brake pad holder on drivers side, the bolts are rusted so been soaking it in penetrating fluid. Still got to clean up the front struts, to remove them aswell and weld in some new metal in a hole I found.  Not even looked at rocker covers.

It's very odd being one of only two people sitting in a hotel restaurant! Doesn't feel like any other installation job I've ever been on. Still, plenty of distilleries around here to get my Christmas presents from... for me lol.
