I became a daddy again on Monday. New daughter is currently dosed up with antibiotics and won't be coming home until the doctors are happy that she is ready. The antibiotics are just a precaution apparently and it seems unnecessary until you are told/read about the worst that can happen

As for this story... It's just had me in tears - Just makes me realise how lucky we are

What is also scary is just how much damage it does if you do survive. Adults get it too (a particular risk group being university students).

Yep, I lost a friend to it at University. Thought he had a cold, so went home for the weekend. Couple of days later he was dead.

  Remember when our youngest had meningococcal septicaemia , that was a VERY scary few days , luckily she came through it with no after effects

I have lost both my parents-dad in 1976,mum in 1998-Ihave lost friends in years past and I lost Maureen last year,all of these I have coped with as you do.However I cannot in my worst nightmares imagine what it must be like to lose a child.My youngest is now 36years old,but he's still my little boy and always will be-same goes for his older sisters they're still my little girls-then there's grandkids and great grandkids.I hope with all my heart I never ever have to find out how it feels to lose any of them.

Sadly our immune systems are in a constant battle against bugs that mean us harm. We are all lucky we are, where we are in life as the results of our immune system not coping against a particular bug or overreacting both can have life changing and tragic outcomes.
