Are things really that bad ?
« on: 02 April 2023, 17:20:13 »

Went over to some friends last night in Bourne Lincolnshire, went to their local Indian/ Nepalese curry restaurant, have to say that it was one of the best that we've ever had , the restaurant was full from the time we got there till the time we left 19.40-23.15 folk were spending like there was no tomorrow, cost of living crisis certainly didn't exist there. So all this I've seen on the news about failing restaurants could simply be that perhaps that they're just not good enough to survive anyway.

If you've got a good eatery in your area ,word spreads and it will be busy. There are a lot of sub standard places too and they are the ones who will eventually go to the wall, deservedly so.

No matter what time or day I go to ASDA, it is heaving and the trollies are packed high with non essentials. No one seems bothered about the final bill.

"Eat where it's busy and the locals eat and avoid places with no customers"
with a few exceptions , like McDonalds, KFC etc ,which are always busy with lazy customers who will eat any shyte  :D

We have three, maybe four, Indian restaurants within walking distance
The best one, packed at weekends and quite busy during the week. Often can't get a table.
The others, empty & struggling.
But, point taken. I often wonder about the "cost of living crisis".

I`m doing a job at the moment for a new house,
the bifold doors on the rear cost £45.000,
thats more than I paid for my entire house several years ago,

Here is the thing though, if you have no mortgage or rent then you are easily £1,000 a month ahead of any one who does.

That's quite a lot of curry/days out.

No kids at home? Same.

Two incomes/pensions? Same.

I'm quite partial to the Colonel's secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices.  But I do need to be within about 45 minutes of a comfortable potty, before the volcano erupts.

The Cost of Living crisis seems to mostly effect the Peeps that couldn't really afford it in the first place, closely followed by the, if we cut back we should be ok for now, Group, but there are still plenty of, Crisis, What Financial Crisis?, that just seem to spend money like its going out of Fashion, if were not careful we could end up with a Country of Have's and Have Not's.

Gave up with KFC just too greasy, however SWMBO bought a pack of Southern Fried Chicken from Aldi at the weekend & it was really very good.
