Well, I today braved the very cold breeze and fitted part of the breather pipe.
Due to not wanting / being able to currently get to the back of the engine, I decided to just cut the damaged part of the pipe off and connect a new section with the right sized pipe (thanks again DG!) and connector to satisfy the situation for now. In the summer, when I am fitter and the weather is warmer, I will try and replace the whole breather pipe, whilst also replacing the HBV as I will be working on that part of the engine.
Today I kept the engine going as I worked to stop me getting too cold, which could give me complications, but even with removing the wipers and lifting the scuttle out of the way, it was still bloody awkward! But at least for now it should make sure the forthcoming MOT emissions test is not compromised.
