Cheers folks, The welding is for the sills and back arches. Just cleaning up the front arches so I can see what looks good, bad and ugly.

So far with a lot of cleaning up I have only found one rust hole that appeared just above a rectangle hole.

The tools are bought, youtube videos bookmarked and MIG welder being re searched.

Could anyone send me a picture of what the front wheel arches should look like on a 2002 Omega so I know what part should and should not be there. Was this just metal with a coating or were they metal with a lining then coating? I am coming across a lot of steel but also a softer peeling material.. which I hope was not metal :(

I am also wondering as a newbie to mechanics if someone could point me in the right direction to understand what the wires and tubes are in this area.

Omega General Help / Re: How much rust is too much rust

Thanks everyone, I am going to stop spending money on her us now until I get all the bad points checked out from Nick W pictures.

Ive already started putting new parts on her as I don't have much of a clue about structural parts of a car and this project was a learning and bring back some old memories when I had a P reg Omega back in the day.

The sills, rockers and wheel arches are on problem for me, when asking for advice on cost to look at other bits what is the best way to word it.... how much to replace the ? bits.

Managed to get under the old girl.

Most of these are rocker rust but some of it looks to be the jack mounts.

Behind the wheels, is this OK or is it bad?

Thanks for these, yip I am going to strip her all down to get a peek under her.

Regarding the aly rods I saw this on youtube for some basic body work repairs and I was going to give it a shot.

Ive just had a peek behind the front wheels and all looks good.

I a going to get the wheel arches and plastic end cover plates off to get a better peek.

Yes I have seen on you tube that low heat aluminum rods can be user to join metal together so I might give that a go.

If i grind down bodywork until I see bare metal and it is just small rust pits does this need cut out or can this be treated?

Omega General Help / How much rust is too much rust

Been working on my Omega for a while now but I wonder if there is a point where too much rust is too much, I am happy to plod away on this project but I don't want to spend time and money if the rust is so bad that its never going to be drive able and safe.

I will get some pictures when I feel brave enough but after removing the sill plastic covers under the sill is badly rusted to holes and the jack up points are very bad also.

The arches I am comfortable cutting out and using low heat aluminum rods with new metal, fiberglass to repair but under the car i am not so sure.

I really don't want to get rid of her and I do want an Omega in my life.

Thanks folks, due to my lack of knowledge in electrics I have left well alone just now.

So far the glove box, vents, airbag and a load of screws and bolts are in the boot.

Just looking at the manual now and trying to learn how to read wiring schematics as I go. I cant find any Haynes manuals for the facelift model just the pre facelift.

Does anyone know what the ''hedgehog" is called officially? Is it the K7 relay air conditioner blower?

Hello folks, thanks for the help on here to trouble shoot my cabin blower which works hooked up to direct 12v but in removing the hedgehog I may have ripped out 2 wires and I have no idea where they should go.

1 - a brown wire I have no idea where it goes.. i feel it may be block 5 with the blue and white wire.
2 -the block that came from the hedgehog
3 - a red wire I have no idea where it goes.. i feel it may be block 5 with the blue and white wire.
4 - Not sure what the block 4 wires are
5 - Not sure what the block 5 wires are for
6 - a hose that looks like it was connected to something.
Any help in this would be appreciated as I feel my brute force approach has now caused me more problems.

Cheers folks, the sketch I saw of a guide was no use :(

The Vauxhall guide mentions remove vent tube and cable harness... and then im stuck as the cable tray/harness is tapped up like made.

Ive read about by pass the hedgehog and see if the fan runs. its all just wires to me :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 2002 2.6 v6 blowers not working
« on: 19 January 2021, 13:34:14 »
Hello folks, I bought myself a 2002 Omega for a couple hunner quid and doing her up.

One problem I have run into is the blowers display the fan power for a second or 2 then vanish with no blow.

At this moment in time I have the glove box out to look for a hedgehog  :) but with vent pipes and cables in the way I cant see where this little guy is, does anyone have a picture of where its located?
