I always used to volunteer to work as many Public Holidays as I could, if not rostered to work them. Double pay helped a lot with a young family. I was also able to pop home on Christmas Day - if on earlies when the kids opened their presents, or if on lates, then I could come home for Christmas dinner with them. However, if on nights, I didn't get a lot of sleep!
But then again, I used to enjoy my job anyway irrespective of what shifts were thrown at me throughout the year......

First day I have off is Boxing day*. Dont start until 7.30pm Christmas day though.
One of the things I like about my job is a great lack of bullshit. Ive had lots of it in previous jobs and it can make you really miserable.
My manager is a diamond bloke though*, and the ones above him arent as bad as other senior managers Ive had to deal with in the past.
The hours can be shit, but its a nice little number for an old fella of my age.

*Actually finish 7.30 am Boxing day morning.
* Hes perfectly comfortable with the fact we dont stay awake through the night. Just doesnt want to know the details.

Sister gave me some kippers yesterday so had one for brekky, washed my hands twice and the still smell of smoke. Now wheres the Swarfega? trouble is hands will smell of Swarfega all day!!!

Washed hands 2 more times and did washing up/cleaning worktops and all , still smells of smoke!! Cant taste it though, the mince pie worked a treat!

I love fresh mackerel in the summer, but I don't like the lingering smell of fishy fingers after gutting and filleting them.
