General Discussion Area / Happy Hogmanay
« on: 31 December 2011, 19:44:44 »
Had a good day today.  Cleaned the house - she did the dusting, I was blasting about with the hoover - and then we took the hound for a gallop in the woods through goodness knows how much muck and glaur but she was happy.  As was Jura.....   ;D

Home, washed & dried dog, pre dinner drinkies then cooked and ate steak dinner with a good mature red, albeit with quite a few grey bits in there now.  Age doesn't come itself (oops, left the door open for yet another double entendre.....  :-X  )

Happily listening to Runrig on the telly rather than the prechewed pap that the mainstream channels force upon us and happily festering awaiting desert and the bells.

Braw!!

Happy Hogmanay to all on OOF.  Hope 2012 brings all neccessary requirements into reality.

Lang may yer lum reek!!!   :y

General Discussion Area / Wii or kinnect for xbox
« on: 23 December 2011, 19:53:42 »
Righto clever peeps....  Gaming type Q for you.

I have an xbox that I use to blat virtual baddies with on occassion and t'other half has a hankering for a Wii after daughter had one and it went with her when she moved out.

So.  Is it considered better to get a kinnect doofer to connect to the xbox and a couple of games or go for the Wii bundle with balance board and keep fit games etc and join in the Mario escapades now and again?

This is quite a wonderous invention in this technological age.

Loads of good, practical, howtoos for those of us who like to see something physically done rather than using a verbose descriptive set of words - just like I wrote!

Good for bringing dusty old music back to the front of your mind where it previously nestled quietly, almost forgotten, like the recent Pink Floyd and some of the very apt mood changing and uplifting posts by some.

Equally good for showing how ingenious constructions like the recent post on the V12 engine model and the like can expand mind and talent.

Just a pity that there seems to be a trend of posting purile pish on here thats perhaps best left on the u-tube version of sikipedia.........    ::)

Hey Ho......    :)

Set of 4 gathering dust in my garage.  Blasted and powder coated 18" Irmscher Sportstars that I was going to fit.  All are 8Jx18Hs with ET38 offset.  See pics further down.  They are looking really really good, even though I say so myself although the screws could do with removal and tidying with a brass brush for the perfectionists.  If I get time will do that but in all honesty, its unlikely.  Have had tyres on them but have since been removed so NO TYRES.

Buyer to arrange uplift but will deliver to within 150 miles of the Forth Road Bridge for cost of fuel each way at 30 mpg in my Disco.  Looking for £550 for the rims and that is what they cost me as they now stand, so not much in the way of wriggle room for a buyer....

General Car Chat / descisions descisions.....
« on: 12 December 2011, 21:58:07 »
Am currently seriously tempted by a W plate 7 seat Disco TD5 XS which has been taken as a trade in at the moment.  No rust, straight undented panels (bar one front bumper corner scrape) dealer service history upto around 20k miles ago, low miles (relatively) and a heap of toys and goodies from new including heated front screen, heated leather, upgraded sound system etc etc and on a par with Omega Elite spec.  Buy-in price is 'fair' but a team member buy also suffers from corporate greed and will probably attract a premium price given the time of year and the weather 'demand'.

On the opposite side of the coin, my old 300tdi commercial is bashed and scratched to buggery, two seats, barely working heater, is a skip inside but has had the major bits fixed such as wheel bearings, new discs and pads, timing kit, and the rusty bits that fall off have been welded back on. And its due me nowt, cashwise.

I would still get about half the purchase price for my old commercial against the purchase of the new one but its that old eternal question/challenge.

Better the devil you know and all that....

Descisions descisions.....    :-\

As title.

Makes it all the easier for all if, when preparing your add (or Admins, when moving here from elsewhere) you start with either WTD (for wanted) or FS (for sale).

(Admins - if moving a thread with a few replies, remember to change both the first and the last header of the thread so that any follow on posts reflect the WTD/FS addition.   :-* )

Thus:-
WTD - clear add for 2000 facelift estate

and

FS - something to sell quicker.

General Discussion Area / Any boiler installers on here?
« on: 09 December 2011, 23:05:26 »
Gas boiler at my house is at least 24 years old and simple as simple can be.  No doubt its innefficient and she and I decided that, rather than move, we should tidy the nest a tad whillst time and cash enable us to do so.

Boiler was serviced as per contract last week and appointment arranged for a heating advisor to call and suss out the what and wherefors of an upgrade.

Summarised as change to a combi boiler, repositioned into an airing cupboard rather than in the kitchen.  Radiators and existing plumbing, by and large, remaining as per.  Only plumbing change is the run of external gas pipe and the copperwork to join the new boiler into existing system.  Change of location for this means roughly, 10 feet of copper into existing pipework of hot water cylinder which will thereafter be redundant. Gas supply, however, is an extension of perhaps 50 feet (but thats a guess).

Cost of a Gas Board branded Bosch combi boiler is circa £1200.

Any guess as to quoted completed job price?

This topic has been moved to General Discussion Area as its now developed into a general English lesson rather than a car related topic. Good luck with the learning Lazlo.
