Hi all,
A wierd problem occurred tonight. I always leave my radio switched on so that when I fire my 51 plate Elite up I get music! however tonight the readout showed nothing, not the BOSE sign nor even the time and date (which is the default off mode!) I turned ignition off and back on hoping this would solve said problem but to no avail. The car currently is sitting with the radio lights on and read out in top showing outside temperature, I presume this is now draining the battery  :-/
Any clues how to reset the radio would be very helpful

Thanks  :)

Hi Oofers

I think there is a dead something in my windscreen washer system as it really pongs when you squirt the jets at the screen.
Is it possible to simply drain the tank or should I just fill to brim with clean water and carry on filling so the system sort of flushes itself then add concentrated windscreen wash.

Omega General Help / Ignition Key battle
« on: 01 July 2009, 09:48:32 »
Hi

small tale to tell, got in the old car last night after a pig of a commute back from the City , hot sweaty and tired!

plipped the door locks open, so far so good, then inserted the key to fire her up but it would not turn in the lock. I jiggled it and wiggled it for what seemed like ages - The car had been in the station car park all day in the blazing heat and was like a sweat box, all I wanted was to get home .

Anyway after about 10 minutes of ranting and more jiggling and wiggling of the key it finally released and I was able to start the engine.

Is it because of the heat that the barrel may have expanded and caused the problem or is their gunk in there. Or is the lock mechanism failing!

Would a squirt of WD40 help or harm ?

It also happened this morning to a smaller degree, 3 or 4 minutes jiggling and it finally allowed me to turn the dam thing.

Omega General Help / Service due
« on: 23 June 2009, 10:54:38 »
Hi OOfers

I gotta get my 2002 2.6 Elite Estate serviced but really worried that I might choose the wrong garage. Had some bad experiences at Formula One etc, :(
Can anyone recommend a Mig friendly garage in the Enfield/N.London or Herts at a push area

Many thanks

Omega General Help / Shock !! absorbers
« on: 05 June 2009, 14:24:00 »
Hi

I had an MOT recently and it failed, main culprit was a serious leakage in one of the rear shocks, result was to replace both.. Man in garage he say got two options ... top of range shocks to replace would cost £300 for the pair (inc fitting) or £150 for the cheapest option.. anyway after consulting the finances I had to opt for the £150 jobbies. I did mention they should be self levelling but he said that wasnt a problem ??

the breakdown was something like £50 each plus £50 labour.

After picking her up she seemed ok but I have since taken a full car load of 5 adults plus kit and they are not doing what they say on the tin ie: they dont absorb the shocks, went over speed bumps and mini roundabout humps and it felt like they travelled the full distance and bottomed out! (the old ones coped even the leaky one  ;D )

Is the problem to do with the inferior shocks being fitted or perhaps incorrectly fitted or could the problem lie elsewhere?

All or any advice gratefully welcomed, as always

Oh my mig is a 2002 2.6 Elite Estate

Thanks

Omega General Help / Had a prang saturday night :(
« on: 06 April 2009, 22:11:42 »
Hi fellow Mig lovers.

A tale to tell
My beloved Elite Estate got nurfed by a rather transit whilst sitting at a level crossing. The stupid git left his van to talk to his mate in the car in front but didnt put his handbrake on. Consequently his heap of shite trundled back into me. I couldn't do anything about it although slamming it into reverse and trying to manouvre out of his way did nothing either so I braked and waited for the inevitable crunch..

visible resulting damage was front bumper = wipeout, bonnet pushed say 1-2 inches back and up!!= wipeout and a minor crease in rear bumper as i was shoved back into the beemer sitting behind me

anyways having said all that the guy fully admitted it was his fault (although he is still a nob!) and details were exchanged etc

cutting a long story short - the repairers assigned by the insurers pick up my car tomorrow to begin the restoration back to its former glory.

I havent been able to prise open the bonnet to see if I have suffered any mechanical damage (to be fair and truthful I don't know diddly squat about engines and stuff)

What other parts may have been damaged? and need to be checked and put right as I dont want to eventually accept the car back looking shiny and new when hidden calamities may exist,
also should the repairers check such things?

sorry to bore you reading this

thanks

his lordship

Hi mighty OOF members.

A small problem has occured. I was adjusting my drivers seat at the weekend and whilst doing this I pressed one of the memory settings and my seat went alarmingly backwards, down and flat !!! When trying to re adjust it back to my normal driving position (which is a lot closer to the steering wheel) it only travels horizontley to approx 3 inches from the forward end of its track and wont budge/glide or whirr any further. All the other functions still work fine. I need it to get to almost the forward end as I have got short fat hairy legs . At the mo I am having to really stretch which is not safe or comfortable  :(

Looking thru the manual, as you do, it does state that it can be manually cranked but the previous owner must have "forgotten!!" to replace the tool kit in the spare wheel compartment, so no joy,

Does anyone have a miracle cure or do I have to pay dealer prices to have it looked at  :'(

Waiting in hope , Cheers Guys n Gals

Omega Gallery / Family Holiday to The Lake District

Took our Mig to the Lakes last week. 323 miles done easy as!! got out feeling refreshed. It really is the BEST motorway cruiser I have ever owned. racked up another 400 odd miles doing the sights and came home.
Best road was the B5289 from Keswick, thru Borrowdale and up & over the Honister Pass into Buttermere then complete the round trip up the Newlands pass (a minor v.steep road ) back to Keswick. Highly recommended.
