General Discussion Area / Guest numbers up this year
« on: 26 December 2012, 16:35:02 »
Just got in from my annual session of cooking lunches for the homeless at the local Christmas shelter. As title states the number of guests was up on last year. I recognised at lot of old faces but quite disturbingly quite a few new ones. A sad reflection of the state of the nation at the moment.

General Discussion Area / Mince pie marathon
« on: 17 December 2012, 21:36:17 »
Hi all just finished making several hundred mince pies to sell in the shop. All hand crafted and made of shortbread not pastry, but It's worth the effort for the quality of the product. Rolling out and handling shortbread is like trying to plait fog :o, good job I've had plenty of practice at it, I think I've "gone off" mince pies  ;)

General Discussion Area / Electrical regs question
« on: 17 November 2012, 22:11:06 »
Evenin' all. My daughter has rented out her old house and it needs the electric shower replacing. I am quite capable to do the job but do you need any formal qualifications to do this as the house is occupied by tenants.
TIA

General Discussion Area / One for those with electrical knowledge
« on: 23 September 2012, 21:12:02 »
Evenin' all, can anyone tell me if it is o.k. to run the pump on a gas boiler of the upstairs lighting circuit? The reason I ask is my daughter has just had a boiler fitted in the loft and the installers have tapped into the lighting circuit to feed the pump, I would have thought that this wouldn't be "best practice" but I could be wrong.
TIA

General Discussion Area / Switching electricity suppliers
« on: 20 September 2012, 18:34:55 »
Hi all, I'm very confused. I have just been on the phone to two energy comparison/switching sites. at the moment I am on Npower standard tariff having just come off contract. The two sites I contacted gave me conflicting info. one said I would be better changing to another Npower tariff  with a saving of £38  the other told   me I would be better off with Scottish power saving £59  :-\ so I phoned U switch back the first one I contacted and they confirmed that Npower is cheaper but they suggested to call Scottish power direct to check, which I did. they informed me that their tariff would be more expensive by a few pounds than the standard tariff than I am on let alone the cheaper than the other Npower tariff that I had been offered WTF is going on? has anyone had a similar experience or know what is going on?

General Car Chat / Citroen relay gearbox
« on: 17 September 2012, 20:47:29 »
Evenin' all, can anyone give me the "heads up" on how difficult it would be to change the gearbox on a Relay 1400 1998, 2.5 diesel manual 5 speed non turbo gearbox using ramps if that's possible. As my works vans box has just packed in.
Thanks in anticipation for any advice

Hi all, slight problem with the Omegas wipers. They have started to park half way across the screen, they are still doing the correct sweep but coming to rest pointing straight up. I've checked if they are secure on the spigots which they are. Can anyone advise please.
