General Discussion Area / write offs
« on: 12 December 2013, 17:50:29 »
Customers daughter has twanged her little corsa on a 05 plate. Got paid out and i believe they have bought the vehicle back.

I dont think theres much damage. Been a long time since i put a salvage car back on the road , remembering some of the threads on here its no longer just a case of it being recorded.

What else is involved and ignoring the repair cost, what other fees?

(should of gone in car chat..)

General Discussion Area / Energy saving and combi boilers.
« on: 19 November 2013, 23:20:05 »
As the general skank of energy prices continue to increase with bills paying toward green energy solutions a 2yr old could tell you are not going to work, i digress.

If you supply warm/ hot water to the return circuit (coming from the radiators) will the boiler continue to pump without the gas flame cutting in?

The boiler fitted at the mo is a valiant turbo max 824e for those slightly interested.

How long should one of these last?

Developed a leak over the last couple of weeks so thought i would get the pressure tester on it.

Nothing happening , so turned the heater control to COLD and out it poured.

Brand new genuine unit from the local dealer fitted 20k ago (2010).

Anyone know much about these?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-MITSUBISHI-GALANT-ESTATE-V6-24-AUTO-RED-VERY-CLEAN-/181231166715?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a323824fb

Seen one the other day in saloon form looking nice.

I love the Subaru s, but the parts situation on some models puts me off.

General Car Chat / rear air shocks. opinions?

My rear shocks have been leaking/corroded for quite a while so thinking of getting them changed before the next loaded road trip.

I can get the vauxhall ones for £160 all in. Was expecting them to be a lot more money.

General Discussion Area / Electric Cable detectors
« on: 10 September 2013, 21:46:27 »
Got some lights to fit in a concrete ceiling and i know the wiring is only buried in the plaster and shielded with a plastic cover.

Some very mixed reviews out there regarding there usefulness.

was thinking along the lines of these.

Any opinions?

General Discussion Area / nothing interests me.
« on: 06 September 2013, 23:10:49 »
Its true.

Some of the topics on here at one time would keep rolling for some time.

I recon some are shy and  worry what others may say.

Some members are trying to keep the ball rolling and respect to them, but i recon there are more other avenues of interesting opinions worth a mention.

You never know what other members interests are until you mention them, (with in reason. ;D)

General Discussion Area / Domestic water supply leak.
« on: 04 September 2013, 20:52:55 »
Not so long ago, the drains in the Close i live collapsed causing bother to 50% but not me.

On further inspection the collapsed drain was found to be under my driveway.

As this aspect is now under the control of (in my area) Severn trent wate, theyr dug up my drive to fix the Closes drains.

As the drive is at the moment a hard core base, digging up my drive was no big deal to me.

Six months later I now have a water leak on my driveway which is becoming a right mess, so at the weekend i got the shovel out to find the cause of the leak thinking it may be my relatively new water supply, which is the remit of the property owner.

On further investigation is seems to be the old lead pipework supplying the two flats next door. One owner by a private land lord, the other by the local housing association. This pipework seems to be on the border.

I contacted the local council after a few days of trying to catch the tenant to no avail. They said i need them to ring in so they have contact details.

On trying fruitlessly to convince them of the importance to get this sorted asap, the general reply was.. my tap still works so ..do one.

The supply really needs to be replaced as the old lead pipework is bound to fail again if just a repair is done.

Any Advice welcome. :o

Plenty of broadband mb and works a treat using a xbox to tv with a hdmi cable, however using a lowish speck netbook/laptop (pavilion dm1) its nigh on useless. cpu runs at 100%

seems strange when other stuff (youtube) works ok.

what spec do you need to run netflix off a pc or am i missing something??

Omega General Help / air con leak locations
« on: 06 July 2013, 19:32:31 »
Had the air con die last year. Fella came out and topped it up which got it working again. I wasnt that impressed with his lack of tools and whinging and had a feeling that wasnt the end of the issue.

Called out the company recommended on here and after a brief chat with the fella i knew he was a tad more knowledgeable.

Aware there was going to be a leak still present, plenty of dye was added.

Question is, where the first/ most common place to check?
