Omega General Help / Re: V6 Cambelt trouble aligning
« on: 01 May 2017, 23:47:00 »
Agree with the above - it's possible to get to an approx setting where the engine will run, without the correct setting kit.  However to get it spot on the correct fitting lit is essential, and I've done quite a few by now.

It's your car... But you appear to be seeking advice from here yet are asking us to compare cabbages and eggs :-X

My time isn't precious, but I do get protective when it is freely given only to be wasted.

Fear not, it's now lunch time and I have and afternoon of Polish lessons... Do widzenie.

"To the vision"??  Sure you don't mean ... Do widzenia, which translates to goodbye, similar to the Russian  ;)

Good luck with your Polish lessons  :)

General Car Chat / Re: My next car.

I once went to the section of the Ferrari factory at Marranello where they keep and look after the old F1 cars.   :y

Many of these were privately owned and Ferrari provide a package where they store and maintain the car and they will transport the car to a track and provide the pit crew if the owner is taking the car to a classic event.  8)

I expect that this would even stretch Lord Opti's deep pockets!  ::)  ;)

I would like to do this one day, just to see the old cars of Giles Villeneuve. The greatest driver ever to sit in a racing car.
Almost had the opportunity about 5 years ago during a visit to Milan / Lake Como, but there just wasn't enough time.

Also called in there on one of my business trips to Italy and picked up some spare parts for my 72 Dino - they had them available and they were a lot cheaper than from a Ferrari dealer in the UK.

General Car Chat / Re: Sand/Dust on the car
« on: 26 April 2017, 23:48:48 »
Anyone getting this? Washed my pair at the weekend, popped out today and covered in dust.  >:(

Looking closer, really does look like sand. No building work going on near by either.

Just got the hose out to wash it off, as cars are clean under the sand.  ;D

Yep, but we've got building work going on less than a mile away.  Usually worse when I've just cleaned the Jag.

Omega General Help / Re: Cam sensor
« on: 26 April 2017, 23:45:26 »
Have changed two 3.2 sensors... V6 ones are pretty reliable with their codes. If it says cam sensor, then cam sensor it is ;)

Unlike the random dead gearbox codes that the Desmond throws out :D

But the Cam sensor shouldn't cause it to die I think? It should still run with the light on?

When we first got our 2.6 V6 Estate it kept stalling.  Went back to main dealer (via seller as under warranty) - codes showed failed cam sensor.  Dealer changed crank sensor as failed cam sensor rare - still stalled.  Changed cam sensor solved problem - they do stall due to failed cam sensor ;)  Never had stalling in the following 70K miles.

How old is she, any background on her?
Dusty? He's a he. Rescue cat, so history unknown, believed to now be about 3-4yrs old, BSH/British Blue.  We also have his suspected mother, Dinky, 4-5yrs old, BSH/Tuxedo, from same rescue place (they didn't want to be separated).
Er, I meant the car ....... ::)
Oh. Err, background, err, probably built in Castle Bromwich. Designed by some bloke in Whitley.  Replace the X358 smell-of-wee model.

Not much more to say really...

Age, miles? Any juicy options?
Mid forties, but definitely been around the block somewhat :P

Its a 3.0l twin turbo diesel, allegedly something like 275bhp, 0-60 in 6s, 155 mph limited.

Its the well spec'd Portfolio model, SWB, with some of the options ticked at purchase. Has just about everything I can think of, including the rare electric rear blind.  What it doesn't have is RSE or adaptive cruise. No front fogs either, but they are not an option on an XJ.

You shouldn't need front fogs with the adaptive lighting and cornering lights.
Thought adaptive cruise was standard fitting - have it on mine.
Mine also lacks a front passenger grab handle - if you look not a lot of room to fit one.  You can move side squabs electrically on seat base and back to keep passenger in seat if driving spiritedly  ;)

dbug - did you get any instructions for the headphones, can't work out how to turn them off. Even popping the batteries out, and putting them back in, they are still on ;D.

Unless they are faulty, but they look to be nearly £200 to replace :o.

No only whats in the handbook, which is sfa  ::)

Had no issues with mine - turn off auto once dual view turned off.  Turn on at switch next time use of dual view.
Should also turn off with on/off switch on phones.
Is your dual view turned off?
Could try to disable audio output on dual view settings menu - select dual view hard button, then again to bring up settings.  From memory there is an option on touch screen to turn off audio output (headphones on button) - worth a try.

Is yours covered by Jag warranty? Mine was/still is and got a few niggles sorted ok.

HTH :y - if not yours may indeed be faulty - warranty or replace yourself.
Jag parts are indeed expensive - Landy headphones the same and cheaper.  Fraid that is part and parcel of owning an expensive Jag  :(

Filled it last night and reset trips, and drove back 25ish miles. Sub 30mpg.  So gonna have to get used to higher fuel costs ;D

Nice! "Using the performance" then ;).

For that mpg, weren't you tempted by the more hairy chested 5.0?
An XF wanted to play, so as a fellow Jag owner, it was rude to not oblige. Mrs TB, after a period of blissful silence, tells me there are no grab handles for the front seat passenger - another step down from a 19yr old Omega....

As to V8, we all know I'd struggle to get 15mpg day to day from a NA one, and 10mpg from a proper one.

Glad to see you've gone for a sensible car Jaime.  Guess the prices for the weasels have dropped quite low now - at least with the V8 prices are pretty stable - had mine about 2 years now, and depreciation over that time, looking about, appears at the most about £500.  Still the petrol versions are scarcer than the dervs.
On a recent run (mainly motorway) of around 350 miles, av speed was 65mph, and fuel was 28mpg, and I wasn't hanging about!!
Enjoy yours!!
Glad you're on.  I have a slight pull on it.  Do these benefit WIM style treatment, or just take it down the road for tracking?

Not heard of this being a geo issue with the X351 - had no such issues with mine.  Whats your milage?  Seems there are issues with suspension bushes with higher miles  ;)  Sticky front caliper?  The X350/358 was supposed to be geo sensitive, again never had an issue when I had the X350, and never had a geo carried out during my ownership.  Tyre wear was always even, but rears didn't last too long - same on the X351, particulary as its easy on mine to spin up the back wheels.

HTH Jaime.

One of the masters at my school had the ex Graham Hill Speedwell Austin A35 racer as his daily driver in the early 60s.

How do you guys with dark tints find reversing at night? The Navara has dark tints as standard and when I reverse that at night all I can see is the Sat Nav reflection in the rear view mirror.  ;D
I know it has door mirrors but it's nice to have a rear view of exactly what is behind.  ::)

Reversing camera  ;)
