General Car Chat / Rug Doctor
« on: 09 February 2017, 14:30:39 »
No this isn't a thread about STEMOs porn pseudonym.

Has anyone used this on their car seats and / or carpets? My motor needs some TLC. The drivers seat looks like absolute shite. I feel normal cleaners won't it as it's a couple of years of grime  :-[

General Car Chat / Dyno results
« on: 09 February 2017, 11:27:16 »
So then, here are the results from today's dyno run. Very pleased.....

That's 164 bhp and 147.5 at the wheels. So the whp is much higher than expected I hear folk cry. He did the test in 2nd as that's the only one he could do the test in. He did say there's probably some kit that u could use to be able to do it in fourth to get a more accurate whp. However if he was able to do it in fourth then the whp would come down as expected.

He was an experienced older chap and he was happy for me to chat to him. I even asked him why mine was at 164 and not 167 😂 But he satisfied my curiosity.

So in conclusion it appears the old girl is still as powerful as when she rolled off the production line. Very happy.

Wifey, against my advice, has decided she wants to get rid of her corsa c. Even though its a proper minter she's been looking round. She's seen the above motor. I'm sure I've serviced one but no info on them other than that (vaguely remember plugs being a bit of a faff).

Online seems to suggest they're supercharged  :-\ and if they're anything like the model before they're chain driven.

Any other nuggets of info out there?

TIA  :y

General Car Chat / Learned summat today (vw cam belt related)
« on: 02 February 2017, 20:30:12 »
Of late we haven't had many cam belts come in and to be honest I've been really enjoying repairs (suspension work mainly). However had a 1.9 pisshat in today and everyone had their jobs except me so I had to do it.

Firstly accesss to the belt is so easy. The crank pulley is easy with the 4 x multispline bolts. The aux tensioner easy to remove. Overall it was actually a joyful experience.

Anyway.

So with vw belts I've always found them tight as a nuns. So re the thing I learned..... I want to see if anyone knows the very simple trick to getting the belt on with no fuss at all. 1,000 Bear points on offer....................

Hi guys,

CD player won't play my shizzle. I've tried CD cleaners to no avail. So what can someone do me for?

And my outside temp on the dash is read at 46.5 degrees Celsius even though I had to scrape ice off the windscreen  ::)

Pm or reply  :y

General Car Chat / Omega booked in for the dyno
« on: 14 January 2017, 17:36:39 »
Hi boys. Not been around for a while as I mentioned last time works so busy.

So got the old girl booked in with Northampton Motorsport for two weeks time. Someone on here recommended them so thanks for that.

I've spoken to them and they've assured me they can dyno test it being an auto box no problem. So out of interest how will they do this without a tech2? Well, that said they may have one who knows.

Anyways..... predictions.....  ;D

General Car Chat / Is it not possible....

.....to measure the power output of a automatic omega?

I understand from here that dyno isn't possible for autos. so is there any other way?

Omega General Help / schrader valveon fuel rail (2.5 v6)
« on: 31 October 2016, 19:27:55 »
bit of an odd one.

after replacing cam cover gaskets I got a strong smell of fuel. found a leak at the rail Schrader valve. tightened it up with a tyre valve core remover tool thingy. all good.

yesterday smell of fuel again  ???

sure enough the valve is leaking again evenafter I tightened it up.it was loose again. I again retightened but that hasn't madea bit of difference.

is the core just a standard tyre valve core? If so im going to fully remove it and swap it to see if that helps. if not I have spare inlets so can put them on. but obviously rather not have to have all that out...... again  ::)

cheers chaps

General Car Chat / Tomorrow's my birthday.....
« on: 25 October 2016, 20:08:17 »
...... and I have some interesting car bits on order  :D

Nice stubby spanner set and a few more tool items I've forgotten about.

The most interesting though.....

An oil analysis kit from me ma and pa (well, I will have to physically buy it myself  ::))

Anyway I've wanted one for ages. I remember a discussion in my 0-60 thread where a few of us thought that a 16 year old omega could have power sapping engine wear. Others thought that they wouldn't have wear at all assuming regular oil changes adhered to.

Compression tests so far seem to show there's no compression loss. However doing my cam cover gaskets in the garage one of the lads commented that my cams were f****d  ;D. That was a bit excessive in my opinion but they were definitely scored and lobes seem to have wear.

No idea what the results will be. Will post up results when I get the report. Can't wait  :)

General Car Chat / First go at adjusting camber
« on: 18 October 2016, 19:51:20 »
Evening gents.

Ain't been about for a while. Works been carnage.

Anyways I got the old boy on the aligner today. Below is the report afterwards.

This ain't that easy to do. It needs two people in my opinion. Not having adjusted camber on any car before I slackened the strut bolts and the nsf wheel moved out to 3 degrees negative camber lol got a big bar in between the shock and the wheel and locked it off at 1o 10. Did the same for the other side. However after adjusting the toe it changed. However it is better than it was before.

now I know what to expect I may go back and adjust it.

One weird thing that maybe someone can throw some light on.....

I took wheels off before aligning so I could get strut bolts loose. I noticed that the

I've driven it up to speed and it seems a lot more stable than before. Next is the rears.

Omega General Help / Breather box: do they clog?
« on: 18 August 2016, 21:25:35 »
Hi guys.

Did my cc gaskets last week. Already leaking. Pretty Gutted as it was a horrible job lol

Now I cleaned the breathers real good after doing gaskets. And even tho I used pattern gaskets (don't berate me, I was trying different ones out) I am amazed that they leaked so quickly.

Fitment was quadruple checked and all half moons sitting in place. Also torqued bolts to 8nm.

Before I go back and redo these with proper gaskets from Vauxhall (yep going to bite the bullet!) is it possible my breather box is clogged causing excess pressure irrespective of how clean breather bridge is and two pipes coming out of breather box are clear?

Your thoughts please

General Discussion Area / One for the smokers....
« on: 12 August 2016, 18:45:55 »
I smoked aged 14-18 and then stupidly restarted again at 26 and had been on-off til my hols last year. I had my last actual smoke in October. I then got hooked on the patches.

Now these patches are good but with the work I do I sweat a lot and they often fall off and they get wasted. Recently a lad at work started vaping. Tried it. Loved it.

Bought my first proper vape machine thingy today. 68 notes inc. the juice needed. But after the initial expensive outlay it's just juice and replacement coils every so often (not sure what the coils do exactly).

Out of pure interest I just wondered if there were any fellow oofers who vaped? I love how like smoking it is but with awesome flavours...... Mines wine gums  8)

So I have changed my driving style quite a bit over the last little while. I've been putting my foot down pretty much everywhere I go. I don't usually drive with passengers unless it's a holiday or summat. But yesterday had two passengers in the car. Kid and adult. And my car seemed sluggish.

Once they got out the car performed exactly as it always does with just me.

So question really is how many passengers do you take before you notice the extra weight holding you back.

Note that the adult and kid were normal size and not fattys  ;D though same can't be said of me at 17.5 st  :-[

General Car Chat / Diesel fuel filter: Renault Captur
« on: 01 August 2016, 19:08:10 »
Hi guys.

Got the above job in tomorrow. If it's not a vw or Audi I hate swapping diesel fuel filters.

Normally if it won't start straight away after the change I hook up our vacuum/sucker to the filter return line, it pulls the diesel in and it will start. Is that the case with the above car?

Last Renault I did had the priming hand pump. But I'm presuming they've upgraded since then?

Any advice welcome.

Omega General Help / Smell of fuel after cc gasket job
« on: 30 July 2016, 16:25:19 »
Is nothing easy on this omega lol

So did cam cover gaskets. Great. No leaks. Car running completely fine.
Other than through the vents there's a slight smell of petrol.

Now I double checked the lines going in to the inlets and they're tight. It's not dripping or anything silly like that. However the smell is down as u put your snout between the air box and engine. Now I know I did spill some fuel while getting the lines out of the way for the cc job.  But I thought it would've evaporated.

Unless it's just the smell of some residue?
Thoughts please
