Omega General Help / Fans cutting in late
« on: 19 January 2020, 15:38:51 »
Afternoon guys

So car overheating issue was solved, i thought, by stat replacement.

Drove somewhere yesterday and temp kept creeping up. Temp only started coming down at just before the red zone. Driving was just town speeds.

Having owned my omega for years I know fan has always kicked in at about 95 on the gauge. So why is it now going near the red before cooling down?

Omega General Help / Odd temperature gauge goings-on
« on: 05 January 2020, 16:09:26 »
Hi gays, I mean guys 😃 hope you’re all well 😘😘😘

So cars been slow to come up to temp. for a few weeks. Sometimes when on the motorway the temp will drop right down. I assumed this was thermostat and I’ve been meaning to do it but just haven’t had time.

Anyway last couple of days the cars gone over 100 in to the red 😖 I wasn’t in a position to stop so carried on to where I could pull over ASAP. However cooling fan kicked in and it came right down to normal. It’s since done this twice more today.

I am fairly certain I needed a stat before the overheating happened but do we think this is also the stat causing this?

Omega General Help / Pas pump removal
« on: 26 December 2019, 12:45:23 »
Evening gays. I mean guys  ;D merry Christmas and may a thousand camel fleas infest your arse hole  :y

I have had a small leak of PAS fluid for a while.  Been topping up every fortnight roughly. Anyway I found the little bugger. There’s a small leak from the back of the pump. I’ve already changed the hose from pump to reservoir.

So when I can be bothered I’ve got a new REMY pump to fit. My question is this...

The big nut on top of the pump. I can’t get my eyeballs on it. Is it likely that when I loosen this it could be frozen to the line (thinking like brake pipe fittings do). And should I be using ptfe tape or loctite on refitting???

General Car Chat / Ford automatics
« on: 09 December 2019, 22:00:05 »
Evening gays, I mean guys 😘

I’m still looking at these Fiestas. Not interested in the hot versions and definitely not interested in the Ecowank versions either. Just a lovely 10-15 plate zetec or duratec 1.4 or 1.6.

It will be automatic unless I grow another arm over next year or so 🤔 so my question is... did ford only put the “power shift” double clutch auto transmission in these or can I get one with standard auto box and torque converter set up? I’ve heard some bad things about these power shift boxes so would prefer standard auto if possible 👍

General Car Chat / Thanks to WIM at Chesham
« on: 28 November 2019, 15:04:41 »
Omega has been driving like a total pig. I’ve tried many times to adjust it myself using works substandard Hoffman alignment machine. I’ve clearly been doing something fundamentally wrong!

I can’t upload the report but left camber was -0’36 and front toe was out.

Massive thanks to Tony and the team. The drive back was amazing and how it should drive!

Definitely worth the trip. And Chesham is lovely. I’d been to them when they were at MK. So definitely overdue a visit 👍👍👍

General Car Chat / Ford Fusion/Fiesta automatic gearbox fluid level
« on: 26 November 2019, 13:23:07 »
Goooooood afternoon my fellow omega freaks, I mean friends 🤔🤣🤣🤣

Mummy Bears 🐻 automatic 2006 Ford Fusion (which I believe has the same automatic transmission they put in the fiesta) has had a bit of attention lately. I’ve replaced the auto box selector switch (which Ford call a “range sensor”), I’ve serviced it, put a new condenser in, fitted a new wing mirror. Anyway it has a drain plug for the auto box so I am going to change the fluid. I’ve done this before but I’ve forgotten the level check procedure. It has a dip stick which I thought was an American thing. Am I right that I do the drain. Refill through the dipstick tube. Give it a run. And then check level with the car warm and still running....

Cheers boys 😍😍😍

General Car Chat / The Omega; a funny old sod (geometry thread)
« on: 12 November 2019, 20:48:18 »
So the old dog is going in for a WIM setup in December. I’ve tried to do the alignment myself but I’ve got to admit defeat. Part of the issue is our works cheap alignment machine doesn’t allow adjustments with the car jacked up like the WIM machine has (the Hunter set up I believe?)

Anyway that’s a side issue. It drives ok. Ish. But it’s still not perfect. I’m no geometry expert but I’d say it’s very susceptible to tram lining. I’ve gone over all suspension and steering and renewed quite a few components. The only things that are old are the rear springs (approx. 6 years old) and front struts/springs. I’ve got a suspicion they may be original. Everything else is new.

I’ve spoken to Tony at WIM and he thinks it’s a geometry issue and I hope he’s right cos if not I may have to throw the towel in and get a Fiesta! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anyway to my actual question.... why is the omega such a sensitive sod with the geometry? I understand that there’s a lot of adjustments that can be made unlike ya standard shitty fiesta where only front toe is adjustable but it just seems to be overly sensitive. Your thoughts...

General Car Chat / V6 stat change
« on: 04 November 2019, 19:01:02 »
Evening guys. Getting through the omega jobs  ::) next month is a trip to WIM for a proper set up. Then thermostat change.

I know TB hates doing v6 cam cover gaskets. Well this is the job I personally hate doing.

When I last did this a few years ago I wasn’t as experienced and when the B bolt went in it went in not very nice at all. I’ll have to double check but it held the transfer pipe well enough that it’s not been a problem. However it got me thinking..... wtf would u do if you buggered the B bolt hole threads in the head? Obviously ideal repair is a helicoil however as u all know access is shocking. It’s been a while and I’m trying to picture it all in my head but if the worst happened what about a length of rubber coolant hose to replace transfer pipe?

Your thoughts my esteemed colleagues 😘😘😘

General Car Chat / Huge thanks to the one from Brackers...
« on: 03 November 2019, 16:40:38 »
Massive thanks to TB for installing my cam belt for me today. I just finished putting it back together, given it a 10 mile run and it’s smooth as silk and quiet and lovely. Thanks mate it’s really really appreciated!!!

Ps, I know I’m a bit slow but this is my 5th or 6th “involvement” in an omega cam belt and I still don’t get it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that combined with shitting my pants if I’ve got it right or not...  :-[

General Car Chat / Oil leak from filter housing
« on: 23 September 2019, 18:08:31 »
Evening chaps hope you’re all well. Was doing my oil / filter today and noticed a larger than normal leak from the filter housing area (there’s always been a slight leak). Cleaned it all off, dried it and after doing the oil change I just let it run on the ramp. Sure enough oil started to accumulate at the bottom of the housing where it meets the block. This is the housing for the paper element type.

I assume if I remove the housing there’ll be a gasket that’s perished? Any info on it would be great as I don’t remember ever removing the housing. I assume it’s just spin it off once the lid and filter is removed? Cheers boys

General Car Chat / Torque converter access cover
« on: 03 March 2019, 15:43:24 »
While up under my dog the other day I noticed i can see my torque converter bolts. I’m guessing there should be a rubber cover that pops in.

If so does anyone have a spare they can sell me?

TIA 👍👍👍
