General Car Chat / Show me yours.........headlight restore
« on: 07 May 2017, 19:32:09 »
Today I spent a good two hours restoring my headlights. As per a thread a while ago I had tried t-cut on someone's suggestion and I was thinking I was going to have to shell out for new ones. Well I got some vouchers from work and decided to spend them at Halfords for a proper kit.

This is the one I bought...

T'was a last ditch effort prior to being parted with my hard earned for a set of new ones.

Well I'm pleased to say it's worked  :)

Here's a pic of my OS headlight...

Now I will note that they are not perfect. But from the yellow horrid mess they were they are good enough for me. So I also did my fog lights too  :)

So I know some of you have done this. Can u put up some pics of your results so I've got a basis for comparison?

General Car Chat / Boot carpet
« on: 05 May 2017, 12:04:58 »
My boot carpet is ruined 😢 I had some rusty metal in there and it's got horrid stains. Tried washing. Hasn't touched it.

Vx want 158 + vat for new one.

I'm not paying that lol

So. I read on another thread about spray dyes for interior material. Is this right? If not any other ideas

Cheers

General Car Chat / Jinyu "Gallop Pro" tyres
« on: 02 May 2017, 20:47:30 »
Right then boyos. My mum has a Ford Fusion (2006, 1.6l auto). It's a really nice little motor but having been in it and driven it myself the ride is ALMOST unacceptable. When it goes over pot holes it feels like the car is going to break in two  ;D

Anyway i know there is nothing wrong with the suspension as I've checked it over, replaced some parts for MOTs etc.

Anyways I always suspected the tyres. She had 1 "road king" or summat like that and 3 (and I shit you not) "Road Stones". Perfectly named in my opinion  ::)

So I fitted a set of jinyu tyres. They're really affordable and we fit a lot of them as a top end budget / lower midrange tyre and we've had some really good feedback from customers on them. These tyres have totally transformed the ride on me mums motor. They're very pleased with it.

I just wondered if there were any oofers that had fitted them and if so what were your impressions of them. I can already hear TB compiling reasons why they wouldn't suit the omega but would be good to know from oofers who drive "normally"  ;D

General Car Chat / F1 (and a Silverstone Q)
« on: 25 April 2017, 22:28:53 »
So then ladies. I trust we've all been watching this season. I can tell as there's not one thread up about it  ;D

based on the first races though it looks like "the spoiled brat" (TSB) actually has some competition from another team in the form of vettel and his prancing horse.

max is also continuing some fine form for red bull. Even tho their motor appears to be nowhere near the mercs and Ferrari.

Is it also possible that mclaren will end up as the bottom team  :'( could it be the end of them as a racing team if they don't sort their engine out asap?

On an aside I was a bit put off by the cars with the "shark fins" but they've grown on me. I love the cars. Lower, wider, faster. The noise is still shite though.

Finally. And I am most looking forward to this. For the first time I've got tickets for race day. Sitting in copse A. We normally just go to practise because when you are paid less than a performing seal it's difficult to find the dollar for such things. However I was determined to go this year.

Now my question..... we go park n ride from sixfields and on practice day we are there in quick time. I'm presuming on race day it will be gridlock. Is this the case

Omega General Help / A few omega bits...
« on: 23 April 2017, 12:07:33 »
Having a go at valeting the omega myself this weekend  ::) and I really really really think it's time for a new expansion tank. If I remember rightly they were around 40 from Vauxhall. Is this still the case and does anyone have a part nombre?  :y

General Car Chat / If you purchased a brand new motor....
« on: 29 March 2017, 22:32:08 »
.....what would you do to ensure it would be non-problematic for years to come?

So. I have this mental idea that one day I'm just going to say "f!?k it" and beg, steal borrow the money to buy myself a brand new mustang.

And it got me thinking.

Obviously everyone has a list of things that need doing on a recently purchased used vehicle I.e. welding, bodywork, maintenance stuff.

But if you purchased a brand new car what would you do to look after it and reduce the need for future things like the aforementioned welding.

Things that spring to mind for me.....

1.) under seal the living shite out of the underneath, chassis, any bare metal etc.
2.) copperslip every nut n bolt on the suspension, subframe etc (not remove them lol just a coat on the outside)
3.) change all fluids n filters every quarter regardless of mileage. Yes that's f.....g nuts but I am nuts and it's my brand new motor  :P ;D
4.) obviously observe the break in period to the T.
5.) I haven't looked in to it but I'm sure you can get some paint protection stuff. I'd do this.
6.) seat covers from day one.

What are your thoughts  :y

General Car Chat / Worst day in the garage for a while
« on: 28 March 2017, 18:38:19 »
I take a bit of pride that I don't tend to cock up often at work these days. But today was one of those days  ;D

Took an egr off a fiesta. Couldn't get the new gasket, valve and bolts to line up. One of the lads had to do it for me  :-[

Next, crank sensor on a corsa d.... took me an hour to get it out as was seized in even though it had come out past the o ring  ???:-[ then when I did get it out it brought a lovely 2 metre length of copper wire with it..... the other half had dropped in to the sump. Pan off (though I actually loved it as it was a piece of piss).

Then screen wash pump on a meriva. Took wheel arch liner off. To find I had to take the scuttle off.  >:( then when I got it all back together I'd put the wipers in the wrong orientation and bent one on first go. I bent it back and all was good..... but FFS  ;D

All in all I'm hoping that was a one off and tomorrow will be better  ;D

So what's your worst day spent on the car or indeed at work......

General Car Chat / 3l V6 coffee table
« on: 19 March 2017, 19:04:35 »
So I have an engine purchased from Red Baron a few years ago.

It's been sat in me mums garage for ages and she basically told me it's got to go  :-[ :-X ::)

My original plan was to strip it down and put it together again. Well today I realised 50% of that idea  ;D I've stripped it down to the bare block. Im picking it up tomorrow to take it to work where I plan on cleaning and painting it along with 4 of the pistons to make a v6 coffee know symes has made a few of these but I plan on doing it meself.

This is what I want it to turn out like....

http://groovyhome.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=457&cPath=17_18_49&zenid=bbgik1r2p86e7o06meb8a4i2q5

Obviously in v6 guise.

There are a few rust spots on the block. Was thinking of wire wheeling the shit out of it. Engine degreaser. Cleaning drying. Painting it in star silver of course!

Is it possible the rust may come back after a little while?

Ps didn't take any photos of the strip down but let's just say that with an impact gun and the E sockets it was all apart in under an s I have a shed load of Vauxhall bolts if I need them and some spares. With the crank out it's easily moveable. Tat thing weighs a ton!!!

General Car Chat / Any idea how to fix my welder?
« on: 19 March 2017, 18:37:52 »
I have the Clarke t135 mig welder. Haven't used it in ages as I have one at work. But it's been at mummy's all that time so today brushed the grime off it and gave it a go. Just pulling the trigger to get the wires to go through it's fine. However as soon as I try to weld and the wire starts to make an arc against the workpiece it seems to birds nest at the motor near the spool. Any ideas  :-\

General Car Chat / Lunch time ponder...
« on: 15 March 2017, 21:17:51 »
Maybe I had accidentally snorted whatever "good shit" pmacca is on but at lunch time I took the office chair outside, the sun was beating down, my coffee and nicotine patch had just kicked in and I gotta say the old girls looking good.

A classic. No. But would I want to be parted from my old girl. Hell no.

Love omegas!

General Car Chat / Bristol Street TC offer
« on: 15 March 2017, 19:43:47 »
Got a TC flier from vx Monday. Normally keeps the inside of the bin warm. However summat caught my eye and I hear they've got loads in stock.......

I've wanted a set for ages but the prices I was looking at for Sealey equivalent were around 50 notes. However, this set....... £7+vat!!!!!!!

Ps, the make is Autogem. The only thing we use from them is the stick on wheel weights and the tyre jizm. So no idea on their quality. But can't really complain for that price  :y

General Car Chat / Facelift mig headlamps
« on: 13 March 2017, 07:12:19 »
Morning guys. So I want a brand new set of head lamps for the omega but am struggling to find anything anywhere (always a concern when eBay can't find what u want lol). All the factors I've called don't have a listing and as said can't find them on eBay.

Where can I source these?

Ps I've tried everything on my existing ones with no joy. So fancy some new ones 👍

General Car Chat / Maybe one for Citroen Guy.....
« on: 06 March 2017, 21:35:47 »
Got a 2013 Dispatch in for a clutch tomorrow. Auto data reckons 9 hours or so. I don't remember fitting a clutch on one of these but I think someone else did one I my e a rly days...... is this the mofo where the front end as well as the subframe has to be removed?

Rough with the smooth I guess  ::)

Took this motor for a spin on Saturday. She fell In love with it. Got to be honest I did too. Buggers got a mere 6k miles on it. She's very excited as she's never had a nearly new motor before (neither have I) and she got a good deal on it. We collect it Thursday.

So naturally I have questions about it. Has anyone had experience with this Hyundai 5 year warranty? The guy made it sound like things like brakes and wear n tear items were covered  :-\ I personally thought that's got to be wrong. She got it from the dealer.

General Car Chat / Omega stat transfer pipe......
« on: 28 February 2017, 19:10:34 »
......Has anyone ever tried replacing the transfer pipe with a standard coolant hose? Last time I did my stat was a couple of years ago and I wonder off the top of my head if there'd be room behind the rear cam back plate to get a regular hose.

Reason I wonder is cos the barsteward bolt I crossed last time and I'm concerned about its ability to keep the transfer pipe in the correct orientation.

Secondly it would obviously make stat replacement a bloody sight easier

Thoughts please 👍
