Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Park Pilot sensor mount
« on: 24 July 2012, 10:45:22 »
I'm still desperatly looking for one of these mounts to use as a template to enable me to make up four tapered spacers that will stop the sensors "seeing" the ground behind and activating the bleeper.
The previous thread has been locked due to elapsed time hence this new one.
I'll gladly pay any costs incurred.
Bosch have confirmed the mounting kit required after I gave them the part number  ::) but have now told me that they are discontinued with no stocks available.
This is the part I need,

Which is the outer ring on this photo.

Omega General Help / EML light on 2.0 manual.
« on: 22 July 2012, 20:25:41 »
Here's a question.
Driving home this afternoon over a long twisty and narrow mountain road in dense mist ( above the cloud line ) I was stuck behind a coach and restricted to driving in third gear at about circa 2000 RPM for probably 10  miles . My speed was fairly steady and I didn't change down to second or stop. Once the opportunity arose I managed to speed up to get passed him safely and then into fourth but almost immediatly the EML light came on.
Car drove perfectly ,temp was normal & no warning message on screen.
I considered stopping but decided to carry on as all seemed OK and got home ( another 5 miles ) without a problem.
I switched off the engine and then restarted and the light illuminated as it should under check condition and then went  off .
I'll get the OBD diagnostic computer onto it tomorrow but have been wondering if the ECU would sense incorrect or over use of the gears to RPM to speed ratio through the on board computer and alert the driver who may be unaware of the gear he was in ?
Just a thought ........

General Discussion Area / Stainless steel circular saw blades
« on: 24 June 2012, 22:06:13 »
I recall these being discussed fairly recently regards fine cross cutting of finished timber .
I've got to get some new blades for my table and hand saws so thought I'd try them but cannot find any on E bay.
Anyone got a source for them at a decent price ?

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Park Pilot sensor mount
« on: 22 June 2012, 13:44:23 »
After much trial and error It would seem that the Park Pilot sensors I recently fitted  are mounted 1.5 inches too low on my FL estate bumper causing the sensor (s) to pick up the ground . The mounting was dependent on the previous aftermarket system that I had installed so I had no choice but to fit them where they are.
I have contacted Bosch and asked if they could supply angled mounts for the system but they have been less than interested so far.
What I'll have to do is have four angled spacers turned up out of plastic that will allow me to alter the field of view away from the downward angle at present.
To enable me to get the correct size and shape it would make my life a lot easier if I had a mount to use as a template ,the alternative is to remove one from the car which means removing the bumper again to gain access .
So I ask , does anyone have one of these tiny but important mounts that I could beg , borrow or buy to help me out ?

Now , Admin feel absolutley free to pull this if it breaks any rules ,regulations or bail conditions .....I post it only in case someone on here finds it of interest.
This is not my car nor have I even seen it but the seller is well known on an Irish site I use daily. It seems a good car with very low miles and it would be sad to see it pass into oblivion. The car is in Sevenoaks .
Anyway here ye go............

Omega General Help / Park Pilot operation.
« on: 28 May 2012, 21:59:06 »
I've just replaced an after market parking system with a genuine ex Omega Bosch Park pilot system . This system came off an Omega saloon and is now fitted on my estate .
In operation when reverse is engaged the system emitts a single bleep per second irrespective if no obstructions are within range .
When in this mode if you simulate getting closer to an object by placing your hand in front of each sensor the system detects it and responds by increasing the frequency of the bleep until a continious sound is emitted at around 9 inches , as it should .
So my question is , should the system bleep once per second when in operation or should it be silent until an obstruction is detected ?
I had a factory fitted Bosch system on a new Audi  some years ago and it bleeped once when reverse was selected but was then silent until an obstruction was detected , I anticipated that this Bosch system would be the same .
I've googled Park pilot calibration but only found a later system that black wires are snipped , these are not on the earlier ones it would seem.
And on the loom is a fuse but not on the power feed . When powered with the fuse out a steady long bleep is given .With the fuse back in and the terminal disconnected there is no change to the operation. here's a photo of these two items,

General Car Chat / Universal electric window kit.
« on: 04 May 2012, 20:19:58 »
Anybody have , or know of anyone who has , any experience of these kits ?

I'd like to fit electric windows to my MK 6 Transit.
I've scoured breakers over here but the two I've found that have a van with power windows are on coke I think......... ::)
A couple of used OEM systems are on E bay but the courier costs are just not economically viable. I considered these kits a couple of years ago and sought some feedback but was unsuccessful so here we are again.

Been looking for one of these for some time but very few early 81's are about.

Attracted me as cars over here older than 30 years are a flat rate of €50 road tax and MOT exempt .
As I only do circa 2 to 3K miles a year in a car it could have been replacement for the Omega ...... ::)
Ho hum ,the search goes on.

General Discussion Area / LED downlighters
« on: 04 March 2012, 19:28:13 »
Bought some 48 LED 3.5 W " warm white" GU10 downlighter bulbs yesterday to see if they were suitable for replacing the 50W items that are bankrupting me .
Oh dear, what an awful depressing light at night , everyone looks jaundiced !
Now looking into it there are alternatives with power ,no of leds and day white colouring options.
Anybody fitted GU10 LED's that are a TRUE alternative to normal 240 50W bulbs ?
These will have to go  >:(
