Title: abs ecu, will it fit?
Post by: Andy89 on 14 May 2015, 09:36:40
My abs ecu is broken and needs replacing Bosch "0 265 203 004"
Can get easy hold of a Bosch "0 265 203 002"

Does anyone know if it can fit?

As far as I'm aware the part number isn't the specific issue, you need to find the correct two letter code, be it 'BX' or whatever, and most crucially, what vehicle did it come off? Because it's a 'brain' it knows what vehicle it's from. Handily, the only info it 'knows' is engine and gearbox.

ie: 1997 2.5 V6 manual saloon in green ECU will fit a 2000 2.5 V6 manual estate in silver. Engine and 'box are only bits you need worry about.

wheras two silver Omegas, both saloons, both 2002 reg, both Elite, both got leather, registered on the same day, but one's a TD and one's a V6 it's a no-go.

Had this on a friend's car once and you will probably find you get lucky and get one reasonably quickly. There's not too many engines on the Omega, and most are Autos etc..

Just to add another important bit, you need to get one off a car with the 'correct' TC. If memory serves pre '97 cars are single channel Traction control, post '97 it's dual channel. So probably any pre-97 ECU is no good to you. Is your car definitely a mini-facelift? (Soft touch buttons, clear headlamps, lighter interior colour schemes, etc)

Oh, and to add another bit... of course another ECU can be programmed to work in your car, but it's a potentially expensive trip to the dealer to have this done, which most of us avoid.

Sorry this is starting to sound more complicated than it needs to be. Look out for a 97-99 3.0 omega with whatever gearbox your car has and you'll be fine.  :)

The two letter code  (on the yellow sticker) is XJ on mine and XD on the one I can get a hold of
My car is a 97 mv6 with original automatic, but I have transfered it to manual
The car the other one comes from is a 94 mv6 (guessing automatic)

Finding one from a manual car over here is nearly impossible i would say

In that case as per my previous post I think that ECU won't work, you need a 97-99 one, they changed the ABS from three to four channel in 1997. To be honest although you've found a 94 car ABS ECU, I'd have thought a 97-99 car would be far easier to locate, there just doesn't seem to be very many early cars left out there.

Have you posted in the Wanted section? I would hope that someone here would have a MFL 3.0 V6 ABS ECU, after all most people on here own the V6s.

My ecu and the one I am looking at are both 3 channel (they at least look identical on photos)
That change was made late 97 I believe (my car is pre face, not mfl)

the wanted section on here won't get me the item fast enough (and I cant post there yet, can i?)

The one I've got

The one i can get

A friendly admin may well have moved a wanted ad to the Wanted section, given that you're clearly in need. I think the post number requirements for selling/buying are to scammers putting up a single post 'for sale - my Omega' then taking someone's money then never giving them the car, kind of thing.

As far as I can tell that ECU looks fine, then. As you say late '97, was the ABS change, but of course being a changeover year you have to be careful. Of course cars can sit around many months before being registered, so you can't always guarantee these things.

I'd aim to get a second opinion from another OOFer or two, just to be on the safe side.  :y

I have just bought it, cost me about 25£ so no biggie
It was from a manual car

fitting it tomorrow I guess, wonder if I can just change the ECU?

I've never known of anyone changing just the ECU part, actually. But as you say, 25 euro, so give it a try. Best of luck!

leave the hydraulics in situ as in the guides.

ain't no guides for the old system here

But I will just try fitting the ecu, then the entire unit if it doesn't work

Go for just the ECU part, then. Never followed a guide when I did it and we just dropped it in, without any bleeding of the system or anything, and worked fine. Could well be that we were lucky. Go as per the OOF guide, for sure.

I have changed the ECU now, the fault remains
The only difference is, now the abs light goes out when I start the car, but comes back on when I start driving (TC light is constant as before)
Before it was on constant

Sorry to be late to this, but a pre 1998 ECU cannot be used on a post 1998 ECU, as pre 98 Omegas had 3 channel ABS (with the rears combined), post 98 had 4 channel (fully independent).  Additionally, v6 ones are different to non V6 due to the TC functions.

The ident code is the important bit (DX for post 98 V6's normally), the config code can be entered via tech2 is required to match engine/drivetrain configuration.

Should I try to replace the entire unit?

No

they are both 3 channel, just wondering if there could be something wrong with the electronics inside :P
Do i need to tell the dealers the ident code from the unit the ECU came from?

Ah, just noticed your location, which may be confusing things for me  :-[

What is the last letter of your VIN
Title: Re: abs ecu, will it fit?
Post by: Andy89 on 10 June 2015, 21:44:29
The last of the letters is V
The car has been at Opel again, and they the "new" ECU is also not working, could it be the electronic bits inside the unit itself that has failed, meaning I have to change the entire unit?

Not mini facelift then, so 3 channel. Going to need a code reader on the unit - although these earlier ones are normally bombproof

Opel said the new unit had a relay error (so another fault then last time)
Could this be because i didn't change the entire unit, or will i need another ECU
