I believe it all changes again next year so new cars do have to pay rfl charge? However I seem to recall it's not retrospective,so cars with £0 rfl now will still be £0.Classic cars are on a rolling exemption of 40yrs old or something?

General Car Chat / Re: Volvo V90

The V70 was a restyle/update of the 850 and came out in 1996,in the same year Volvos naming strategy changed and the 940/960 became the S90 and V90,so the 90 should in theory be just slightly bigger[bodily]than the 70.

No key lock on tailgate, there is a blanked off hole for one and I think maybe they were fitted if the car was ordered with the third row of seats-mine wasn't.

General Car Chat / Tailgate lock
« on: 03 December 2016, 16:13:10 »
The tailgate on my V70 doesn't lock :'( I only have a key for the car[no remote "plipper"] The car has an interior release on the door card, but that's only going to be any good if I can get tailgate to lock in the first place!A mate of mine had a listen to the tailgate while I locked/unlocked the doors with the key and he told me he could here locking motor trying to work.So do they go out of adjustment or seize? Can they be re-adjusted/un-seized?or is it new lock time.Fortunately all passenger doors lock/unlock and a red light flashes on the radio so it looks quite "official"as far as being totally secure when parked.

Must admit never given much thought to the drl's,so was intrigued by Marks DTM Calib's post that they don't light the rear lights.Checked on my V70 today and the rear lights do in fact light up on that with just drl's on.The only thing not lit are the instruments/gauges,heater controls and radio. But then on the V70 the drl's are not super bright/dazzly things like they are these days!

Always seemed to come across as a mild and dignified chap with a sense of playful mischief about him during interviews and such,I would like to think this was the real him and not just some public persona for the benefit of the cameras.I too of course remember him for his superb performances as Manuel.A sad loss.R.I.P.

It is what was being reported on BBC news today. They mentioned CO2,nitrous oxide and even bits of rubber shed from vehicle tyres :o and in all probability some other stuff that I can't recall at present.

« on: 01 December 2016, 20:10:24 »
They've been on about these on TV.Some of the ideas put forward to reduce vehicle pollution.Stop vehicles sitting idling outside schools, hospitals etc.Re-engineer speed bumps to stop traffic accelerating between them. While on that theme someone else said do away with speed bumps altogether to smooth traffic flow.Introduce more 20mph zones in towns/cities and reduce motorway speed limit to 50mph.Whether any of these will actually get passed into law obviously remains to be seen. But if say the motorway limit were to be dropped to 50 would this mean that trucks would then be travelling at the same speed as all other traffic,or would they then reduce the limit for trucks? So many possibles 8)
