Yesterday, I got around to fitting the new cat to the Golf. This required getting the car higher, so jacked up the rear, and lowered the wheels onto the car's spare and an MGF one I had knocking about. Then I moved the axle stands at the front even further forward.

This meant it looked as if there was just enough clearance to get the pipe in, so I lubricated it extensively with concentrated Anglo-Saxon and forced it into place. Then it was the usual German reassembly rigmarole of remembering which randomly chosen fixing went where.

The new brake light switch was surprisingly easy to fit, and reasonably priced at £6.70.

Car passed its retest this morning, so that's one less thing to deal with.
I knew you'd do it. Have you thought of moving to the midlands and getting a shed?  ;D

It would be cheaper to make my axle stands taller by welding them to my last pair of Morris wheels.

That was the next step if I needed to make the ground a bit lower :)

Todays scam ;D

Just recieved a call from a company to reclaim tax back from the HMRC regards a PPI repayment I got 2018/19 ::)

She got a bit pissed off when when I asked them to just send me the cash and I questioned her for more details about the claim.

End result was she didnt like the fact that I told her HMRC dont relaese personal details etc . . I heard some odd words down the fone as she hung up.

Seems I may have ended up on the scamming list from the underworld.
That's not news given your ongoing issue with such things. And I don't just mean recently... But over the last few years

You seem to get scammed as often as an Omega needs fuel.

My gripe today, call centres

Just called Argos simply to enquire if they might be restocking an item I had in my saved list. (that disapeared)

It started with the fact they didnt want to know unless you have an order number after lots of number pressing.  So I nvented one and spoke very slowly, etc etc after a few minutes I was allowed to speak to someone, sadly I could hardly understand  as I dont believe they are in the UK.

Explained my case to simply be told we dont sell that item.

Tried again asking a different way as it was in stock 2 days ago.

(Her) Sorry Mr (Got my name totally wrong) can you give the stock item code please.
(Me) Sorry as I cant becuse the item is out of stock so I cant give you a stock code.
(Her) Why not?

(Me)  WTF and hangs up :-\

Saw the other day they've shut the Argos shop on the trading estate near me and moved into the Sainsburys in town.

Been doing that over the last 4/5 years.

Happening with a lot of them these days.

One the the local areas to me (Rotherham) is like a ghost town now, some shops moved to the retail parks, some shut shops to concentrate with online deliveries.

One of the biggest shops years ago was Wollies (Woolworths) that closed down but the town was allready going downhill.  But interestly I saw a Wollworths online advert the other day, So not sure if still part of the original

https://www.woolworths.co.za/contactus

Just had a look, so maybe a new group as its not the UK

It's a global(ish) brand. Founded by FW Woolworth in Liverpool and subsequently set up in the US, Australia/New Zealand and South Africa. UK is technically part of Very but no longer trading. Was part of the US FW Woolworth group until 2009.

In complete contrast, Mick, almost everything/everyone. There are so many stupid and ignorant people in this world, I sometimes wonder if Jaime actually has a point.

Well if that was the case, whatever he'd nicked had already fallen off the back of the trailer.  ;D

Given the way he was driving though, that wouldn't be a surprise.  ::)
