Paint code conundrum
« on: 14 December 2008, 12:17:04 »

Ok so I have a Omega 2.0 CDX model year 1999. I was looking at the paintwork thinking there is some touch up required. So I looked at the touch up pens that the previous owner gave me and thought "that's not right"...as they are for a titanium silver as the band around the pen I held near the bodywork and the car looks light gold to me. So I looked on this forum (thank god for the wealth of info!) and found the paint codes. Then I looked at the drivers door and found the following:

OPEL
e1*96/79*0077*03
W0L0VBM69X1010799
2050
3700
1-0970
2-1115

Z146 XXLB 011

8385V

Then I looked under the bonnet and found these codes:

22K231 VM69 RX L34 ML4
69X1010779 97L XN8
 XQ2 40
1A02

Well looking at the codes it must be 97L which is olive grey/titanium silver but the car is definitely light gold to me:

I cannot get my picture to load, it is here: http://uk.share.geocities.com/david.streeter@btinternet.com/Omega/IMG_4684.JPG

The reason that you can't embed the picture is that it is inaccessible.

Your link is too.

I can get to http://uk.share.geocities.com/david.streeter@btinternet.com/ , but no further into the "omega" sub-folder.

Host your pictures on something like Flickr or Photobucket it will work then.

Paint code is Z146...97L will give you a general colour code but there are shades...the Z146 is more specific :)

Looking in the technical help section under paint codes I find:

146/97L,97U: Olive Grey/Titanium Silver (96-)

So it confirms the codes on the car but it does not match the body paint colour. I looked at the inside of the petrol cap and that is light gold too, also the body as it goes into the plastic housing so it does not look like this car has been resprayed. I'll try to get a photo of it next to a true silver car to give a photo comparison.

If you want to know if your car has been re-sprayed the best place to look is under the windscreen rubber, if that is the same colour as your car you can bet it is the original, that is  unless someone has spent serious money and removed the screen to change colour (unlikely).

It is a very nice colour though. What are those thin bronze pin-stripes along the outside edge of the boot-lid shut lines? Did you add them, they suit the colour of the car?

i had the same dilema with an old senator, it looked gold but the colour was listed as a shade of silver, if in doubt look under the carpet in the boot or the inner door skin.

Thanks, I like it too!

I bought it about a month ago, so you are seeing what I bought!

Yep they are a bronze colour and there is a Vauxhall marque transfer of some description on the rear passengers lower half of the door!

Never owned an Omega before so this is all new to me! Had 4 cavaliers and loved them!

Cheers

My guess is it has been re-sprayed then.

Have you noticed any overspray on the window rubbers?

Not readily noticeable, I'll have a detailed look...but I guess you're right!

Looks the same colour as the Estate - looks light "gold" but in the V5 is described as silver!  Paint is original.

How weird!

My V5 says that too! But the colour band of the touch up paint (titanium silver) is definitely silver when compared to the body. Does it dry as a different colour?
