Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Connectors
« on: 20 November 2006, 08:03:57 »
Morning all,

I took the wheel off the car this weekend to investigate the "low beam/fld vision" error for the headlights.  Looking at the sensor on the wishbone it seems to be intact, but somethings been up and around there and ripped the wires clean out the connector.   >:(

My question is, can the connectors be reused/rewired.  I know sometimes these things are sealed units.  Just wondering whether it will be worth digging around under the car trying to rewire it, or should I be ringing vauxhall for a new bit of wiring?

Hopefully, that'll fix the problem as I just drove from Newcastle (up north) back to the midlands with a trailer on and I guess I must have been blinding the poor sods coming the other way...  :-[

Omega General Help / Door Trim
« on: 17 May 2008, 22:34:32 »
SWMBO returned the car today with the rear passenger door trim bent.  It's obviously caught on the front passenger door as it's been opened and forced.

Anyone else suffered a similar problem?  Mother-in-law did it a while ago but I managed to stop it before it got bent out of shape that time...  no such luck this time.

I'm wondering if heating the plastic up might help it return to it's original shape?

The book of lies doesn't cover how it's attached to the door - I'm talking about the black plastic strip that's halfway down the door.

Any ideas?

Nope... Holding in the Auto and Off button (mine has the 4 pod things - which I think 'is' the climate one) resets the vents.  Need to hold them in for about 5 seconds and then you'll hear a load of whirring.  When it goes quiet, all should be reset (as far as I know). :y

You got Climate Control?

Mine ('98 Elite) had a similar problem and I never got round to fixing it properly.  The Control Panel went dead, and that caused the temperature to be incorrect on the Info Display.  I fixed it by a well placed blow to the climate control panel - not a recommended fix (but it's not broken since).  I guess that there's a connection behind the control panel somewhere for the outside temperature sensor.

Omega General Help / Re: Tech2 in Staffordshire? (or Solihull)

Hope so!  ;)

Otherwise I might be tempted to just buy one of those cheap Tech 2 leads myself, although rumour has it that it needs a fairly beefy PC to run it smoothly.  As PC's go I've got one that would be outperformed by most people's wrisidiotch   ;D

Omega General Help / Tech2 in Staffordshire? (or Solihull)
« on: 20 October 2006, 08:09:14 »
Just driven to work and had the airbag light pop onto the dash.  Not quite sure why - I was driving along smooth (well smoothish - we are still talking inside the UK) motorway and the little red light came on.
I bought the car just after it had been sorted out and got told not to disturb the wiring loom underneath the front seats, but the car was like a pigsty so I cleaned it.  Maybe moving the seats backwards and forwards to get the hoover and cloths in might have done it.

Anyway - basically - is there anyone around Stafford or Solihull (the two places I travel between) that could help me with resetting the airbag light?

Cheers!!

Hmm... that makes the part they gave me right - it's a completely different size and diameter to the one I took out.  Mine's an earlier engine number.
In the back of my handbook for the car someone's written down a part number (found after I went to the garage - Doh!) but it's completely different...  #90542604.  Here's a stab in the dark - anyone know what that part number is for?   :)

Went to Vauxhall Dealer yesterday to pick up a new oil filter, ready for the oil change.  First time I've done it on the car, and it turns out the fliter they've supplied is smaller than the one in the car, and doesn't fit.

I need to have the car on the road - can't live/work without it.  Can the oil filter be changed without changing the oil after a trip back to the dealer to enlighten them to their mistake?  (Took the car passport in - don't know what excuse they've got!  >:()

I'd be gentle with the pliers... my drain plug sheared.  Luckily for me I was going to replace the radiator, just wanted to flush the system and not contaminate the new one!

I'll try and remember to take some pics then!  :)

I got the car at 65,000ish, and it's only about 400 miles over at the moment, but I want to get it done sooner, rather than a much more expensive later ;)

Hi all,

Since I've not done it yet, (and yes - it's overdue :-[), and I'm new to the car, could someone tell me how similar the exercise would be compared to the (really excellent  ;))maintenance guide's - I only see reference to the petrol engines on the other board.

Cheers all...

My 2.5TD had a loud whirring noise once - used to last anything between 10-30 seconds, then the A/C compressor exploded - no more whirring noises.   :-/

Check Air-Con Compressor too.  I've got a 2.5TD, and the clutch on the front of the compressor came off the front (wiped out the fan and radiator).

Omega General Help / Radiator & Fan Difficulty?
« on: 25 September 2006, 09:52:18 »
Morning everyone...

I've had a radiator disaster and looks like I'm going to be forced into a corner soon and have to buy a new one.  I'm on a '98 2.5TD Auto with A/C - which means there's a fair bit attached to the radiator  :(

I've got replace the viscous fan as well - which I've never done on any car before.  I've read that it needs a special tool to get it off?  I've spoken to RMcB too  :) and he tells me BMW 525 diesels are no longer safe in my surrounding scrapyards.

I'm thinking about taking some time off work to fix the car so I can get back on the road (no way I'm driving the wife's Rover 200 much longer).  I've done radiators in the past but they've been straight forward, but never the fan.

Could anyone give me any advice on how difficult the job might be?  I'm loathed to fork out to get a garage to do the job, as no doubt they'll not source new parts as cheaply, and spend a long time  over it to charge me a fortune.  I've read as much as I can about it and it seems ok, but any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks all!!
