Opinions on Plans for ICE Upgrade on 2001 CDX
« on: 01 January 2008, 09:59:05 »

Hi all,

Hopefully getting a 2001 CDX soon, with a standard CCR2006. I'm thinking about putting the following in, for better sound, more toys etc, and to allow me to use my ipod:

Head Unit (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4893/referer/rc_froogle.html)

Not sure where to get a double din adapter yet.

Bluetooth adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcabt100.asp)

Steering wheel controls adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/install/show_model.asp?id=285) - not sure which one yet?

iPod adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcaip500.asp)

I have an amp already, which I'm either going to drive a 12" sub in the boot, or fit 16.5cm speakers like these (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-sd61-p-5520.html) driven from the sub output on the head unit. These would be fitted into the speaker mounts in the parcel shelf, as per Bose. Does the Bose cut through the parcel shelf cover? I was figuring that if they are just for bass, they could remain hidden below the cover?

Also going to replace the speakers in the front doors, using Corsa B 165mm slanted adapters? Any recommendations on speakers for the front doors?

How does this sound?

They have the adapters to fit a single din unit into the double din space, but not to fit a double din unit into the space! Thanks though  :)

Ok, this adapter (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1680.html), to fit a single din unit into the double din space, says it is for Vauxhall Corsa, Agila, Omega 05/2000>.

This one (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/6857.html) says it is for # Vauxhall Agila >04
# Vauxhall Corsa 00-06

Any idea if it will also fit the Omega (facelift)?

Thanks, I think I found that one a few days ago. My main motivation to go double din is the display size. I only really listen to my iPod in the car, and I've played around with several ways to plumb them in. I currently use a Sony CDX-M630, which allows the display (all the buttons are hidden) to be blacked out. I then have the iPod plugged into the rear auxilary input, and mounted to the right of the steering wheel in my Honda. I'd prefer to control it with the head unit, but 4000+ songs is too much to control with a single din unit i've found. I think a double din unit will give that bit more space to display stuff!! Plus, they have so many bells and whistles I can play with it for days!!

I looked on ebay, they do reversing cameras for like £5  :) which would be pretty cool lol!

space is quite tight behind the stereo, so not room for too many adapters

Oh, I know lol - I put a Sony head unit, iPod adapter and a sub+amp in my wife's Omega (1995) - the phono leads etc push the head unit out a little bit!!

As far as I can tell, the majority of the leads on the head unit I'm looking at (Kenwood DDX 6029) have trailing leads, so I should be able to get them out the way (hopefully)!
